Stree 2 has broken a major record at the Indian box office. The horror-comedy sequel is a follow-up to 2018’s Stree and sees a new menace descend upon the town of Chanderi, namely a headless ghost named Sarkata who kidnaps women. The Indian horror movie has become a box office sensation, beginning with debuting on the domestic Top 10 chart during a particularly competitive weekend and eventually becoming the highest-grossing Hindi-language movie in India for the year while climbing past the $70 million milestone worldwide.
Per Forbes, Stree 2 has now grossed $96 million worldwide. This includes $69.9 million from India, which makes it the highest-grossing Hindi-language movie of all time in the country, surpassing the $69.7 million gross of the Hindi release of the Shah Rukh Khan smash hit Jawan from 2023, a movie that remains the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of all time worldwide. This record also makes Stree 2 the fifth highest-grossing Indian release of all time in its home territory.
More to come…
