Sure, playing DOOM inside DOOM 2 may not sound like fun, but when you’ve completed both games, it’s just another way to waste a few hours. Programmer ‘kgsws’ discovered a code execution exploit in the original DOS Doom 2 and then proceeded to port a Chocolate Doom – a source port that reproduces the experience – to it.
The programmer didn’t stop there, he then ported Chocolate Heretic, which is essentially a modified version of the DOOM engine, but adds inventory manipulation as well as the ability to look up and down. For those interested in trying it out, simply copy the kgdid.wad to the directory where you have doom2.exe and then in DosBox start it with command “doom2 -file kgdid.wad”. This does only work on the original DOS Doom2 version, no GZDoom or other source ports. This is a good thing as you don’t want code execution exploit on modern systems. People would abuse it to spread malicious code. DOS version is available on Steam and you can use DosBox emulator to run it,” said the programmer.
