90 Day Fiancé Couples Whose Large Age Gaps Don’t Bother Fans

90 Day Fiancé features some May-December romances that are common throughout the franchise. Here are pairs that the fans really appreciate.

90 Day Fiancé is filled with May-December romances, and these relationships have been criticized by some fans, due to skewed power dynamics, but some couples receive approval from viewers. In certain cases, the age gaps are large, and they get mixed reactions from fans. Several of these couples have become beloved darlings of the fanbase. In spite of the age differences in their relationships, fans view these couples as happy duos, comprised of significant others who respect one another.

Some of the most volatile relationships in the franchise, which have received the most criticism, are those with older partners pursuing younger potential spouses. Examples include Big Ed Brown, whose age gap with Rosemarie Vega was 31 years, and Angela Deem (who’s 22 years older than her husband, Michael Ilesanmi). Extreme examples are Mark Shoemaker and Nikki Mediano, who were nearly 40 years apart in age, with Nikki only 19 years old when they got together. There are a handful of couples in the franchise with problematic age gaps. Many of these relationships have ended in disaster, with the younger party being manipulated and controlled by the older one. Another common scenario is that an older partner is so insecure with their younger spouse that the trust between them is destroyed. However, many couples with big age gaps have surprised viewers by making their romances work.

Of the successful May-December romances in the franchise, several have not surprised fans one bit, as right from the beginning, they have communicated well. They’ve shown that they have a good understanding of the dynamics of their relationship. At first glance, these 90 Day Fiancé couples may seem like mismatched pairs, but their love is undeniable. Fans enjoy following their journeys as they navigate their unique situations. Here are three couples who are beloved by 90 Day Fiancé viewers, in spite of large age gaps:

Kenneth Niedermeier & Armando Rubio Niedermeier

The franchise’s first gay male couple, Kenny Niedermeier and Armando Rubio, made their first appearance in 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 2. Kenny is in his late 50s, so he’s 26 years older than Armando. They met in an online support group for gay dads, and dated long distance before Kenny moved to Mexico in order to marry Armando, and co-parent his young daughter, Hannah Rubio. The couple became immediate fan favorites, as they faced the struggle of winning over Armando’s conservative Mexican family. They also had to fight the Mexican government in order to receive their marriage license. The couple finally tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony during The Other Way season 3, where both families showed up to support the pair. Fans love to see them thriving as they face every new challenge with courage, and look out for each other.

    David Toborowsky & Annie Suwan

    90 Day Fiance Annie David

David Toborowsky and Annie Suwan are 24 years apart in age (he’s older), and one of the most beloved couples in the franchise. They met in Annie’s native Thailand, and quickly got engaged after meeting. 90 Day Fiancé season 5 chronicled their trying journey towards marriage, where David had to pay Annie’s family a dowry. He had to rely on his best friend for financial support and housing after arriving in America. Additionally, David’s children didn’t initially approve of him marrying Annie. However, the couple made it through these trials, and have continued to show up for one another with affection and humor. They even got their own recent spin-off, David and Annie: After the 90 Days, which chronicled them returning to Thailand, and attempting to bring Annie’s younger relatives to the US. Viewers are excited to see where they go next.

    Rebecca Parrott & Zied Hakimi

First appearing in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 3, Rebecca Parrott and Zied Hakimi were an unlikely couple who initially seemed mismatched to fans. With their 22-year age gap (she’s older) and cultural differences, fans thought that the couple was headed for trouble. Rebecca initially filtered all photos that she sent to Zied. She was still legally married to a younger Moroccan man, her third husband, who had apparently used her for a Green Card, and kept this from Zied. However, the couple’s chemistry was undeniable, and they got engaged and applied for a K-1 visa. They, then starred in 90 Day Fiancé season 8, ultimately tying the knot in the US, and they remain together. Fans were surprised that things worked out between them, but their love for one another shone through as they overcame all of the challenges they faced. They became a surprising fan favorite couple during their 90 Day Fiancé season.
