Whether you have been searching for a new carpet to complement your stairs, living room or bedroom for some time now and are becoming frustrated as you simply cannot find the perfect one, or, conversely, are just beginning your search, you have come to the right place.

Here, in an attempt to simplify your search and to alert you to the most important things to consider, is a comprehensive guide to choosing the right carpet.

When it comes to the right carpet to suit both your lifestyle and your budget, it is generally accepted that the more expensive the carpet, the thicker and more durable it will be.

Out of all the different types of carpet, you will generally find that woven carpets tend to be more expensive. Woven carpets are the most traditional style of carpet and it is both a complex and truly ancient skill to be able to hand weave backing and yarn together, with this labour-intensive task reflected in the price.

Although, generally speaking, the more expensive the carpet the higher the quality, there is still something to say for the classic tufted carpet.

Tufted carpets have been available to the mainstream in the United Kingdom since the late 1950s and the arrival of this particular carpet style meant that fitted carpets became much more affordable for everyone. Renowned and established carpet and floor suppliers such as aflooringboutique.co.uk are on hand to answer any questions you may have and are more than happy to assist you in finding the perfect carpet to suit your home and your budget.

As with other, more major home improvements and changes, you must remember not to simply jump in and order the first carpet you like the look of and that appears to tick all of your boxes.

Instead, ensure to visit, in person rather than virtually, the store that contains your shortlisted style and type of carpet, and do not hesitate to talk to the experts in-store and ask any questions you may have.

Essentially, the pile of the carpet is the surface of the carpet that you stand on and the weight of the pile is usually indicative of the quality. This is simply because the more yarn used to produce the carpet, the more wear it will endure before it loses its shape and functionality.

There are basically four different types of carpet pile:

    • Loop Pile
    • Saxony Pile
    • Twist Pile
    • Velvet Pile

When measuring the room, the first thing you need to do is measure the longest and widest points of the room. If you have features like bay windows, you need to account for these in your measurements.

Additionally, be sure to take with you to the carpet shop a diagram of the room, complete with all measurements, as well as the dimensions of the room itself.
