In April, one of America’s most famous directors, Ron Howard, called The Hollywood Reporter to follow up. He said he wanted to provide additional color to an answer that he gave about his recent film, Hillbilly Elegy, during an hourlong interview the day before. “You were asking a couple of questions about J.D. Vance and how I felt about it, and, you know, I hadn’t actually addressed it or talked to anybody about it very much,” says Howard about the conservative best-selling author whose memoir his 2020 film is based on — and who just won the Ohio Senate Republican…

U.S. suppliers’ price increases eased a little in April as energy and food costs dropped, but producer-level inflation remained close to historic highs. The Labor Department on Thursday said the producer-price index, which generally reflects supply conditions in the economy, increased a seasonally adjusted 0.5% in April from the prior month. That marks a deceleration from the upwardly revised 1.6% gain in March, which was pushed up by surging energy prices after Russia invaded Ukraine. April’s rate of increase was the lowest since September 2021, but was higher than the average monthly gain of 0.2% in the two years before the…
Former senior advisor to President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, recently said of Joe Biden’s presidency that “spite is no way to run a country.” Yet that seems to be exactly what this administration is doing. Donald Trump’s “America First” policies were framed by the media as “isolationist,” “nativist,” and the old reliable, “code speak” for white Christians. The opposite of America First, of course, is America Last. And firebrand Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene took to Twitter on Tuesday to blast Joe Biden for putting…
