The horror genre has been steadily gaining popularity in recent years, and 2025 is delivering a slate of highly anticipated new horror books. There are new releases from beloved authors to watch for, like Never Flinch by Stephen King and The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. But there are also some debuts exploding onto the scene with a premise you can’t ignore, like Sarah Maria Griffin’s Eat the Ones You Love, which looks to be part Little Shop of Horrors, part queer workplace romance.

If you want to keep up with the biggest and buzziest horror books of 2025, now is the time to place your preorders or library holds. Pro tip: if those aren’t available to you yet, set a reminder to check back a month or two before the release date to revisit them. That way, you can be first to get your hands on them. But how are you supposed to know what the big horror books of the year are? That’s where lists like the Goodreads Most Anticipated Horror Novels for 2025 come in.
