    Doctor Who briefly returned to screens for a one-off Christmas special, and to help bridge the gap between the upcoming season and the last, the show released an exciting teaser trailer that displays plenty of exciting new locations and creatures for the new episodes. The series will be the second of Ncuti Gatwa’s rebooted era, giving the Doctor a new companion and taking them on some assuredly unpredictable adventures.

    Although the new Doctor Who trailer doesn’t reveal too much about the upcoming episodes, there are several clues to the series’ overarching narrative. It offers glimpses of some new monsters – and some familiar locations, with a potential return to Skaaro on the cards – but there’s one mysterious face that’s been placed at the front and center of this teaser. This could be the show’s way of confirming season 15’s main antagonist, continuing an elusive mystery from the season 14 finale.

The truth of her character has been teased since the beginning of Gatwa’s era, and the show’s fifteenth season appears to be finally exploring her backstory in more detail.     Doctor Who’s Mrs. Flood tease at the end of season 14 could secretly be the modern take on a powerful force from the classic episodes of the show.

    From her introduction in “The Church on Ruby Road”, Mrs. Flood has displayed knowledge of the Doctor and his backstory that can’t yet be explained. She’s able to identify the TARDIS, she seemingly knew about Sutekh’s return, and she spoke directly to the audience at the end of “Empire of Death” in a way that none of the other characters are able to. There are many theories about Mrs. Flood’s identity, and season 15 may finally provide the answers that fans have been waiting for.

    There have already been several red herrings regarding Mrs. Flood’s true identity, but in true Doctor Who fashion, it’s impossible to tell which are false and which are true. The main theories pertain to Anita Dobson’s character being a future version of a character we’ve already seen, whether that’s Ruby Sunday, Susan Foreman, or even Anita from the recent Christmas special. But this doesn’t explain her ability to break the fourth wall, which suggests instead that she’s not a regular human. Whoever Mrs. Flood ends up being, the answer lies somewhere in season 15’s exciting mysteries.
