The live-action Star Wars TV episodes include some of the best moments in the franchise as well as scenes that will forever be remembered. Star Wars always had a strong presence on television, but it was only in 2019 that the saga received its first live-action TV show. The Mandalorian was the first live-action Star Wars series, and it paved the way for many other similar projects.
The list of live-action Star Wars shows currently includes The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor. Both The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi have so far been treated as limited series; The Mandalorian season 4 is in the works, and Andor season 2 will conclude the show. Here’s every live-action Star Wars episode, ranked from worst to best.
49 The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 6, “Guns for Hire”
“Guns for Hire” is widely considered the worst The Mandalorian season 3 episode and one of the worst episodes in the entire series. In fact, The Mandalorian season 3, episode 6 is arguably the worst of the live-action Star Wars TV episodes. With so many storylines that could have been tackled, a filler adventure on a distant planet was not what The Mandalorian season 3 needed at that moment.
48 The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 1, “Stranger in a Strange Land”
The expectations for The Book of Boba Fett were high, yet the show’s first episode was rather disappointing. The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 1 was expected to deliver, or at least set up, the Boba Fett story audiences had been waiting for since The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. However, flashbacks and the lack of a clear story setup made “Stranger in a Strange Land” a forgettable episode.
47 The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 3, “The Streets of Mos Espa”
The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 3 advanced the plot a bit more compared to the show’s premiere, but the tone of the episode combined with new characters that did not quite work at first played against it. After three episodes, The Book of Boba Fett was still trying to find its tone, making “The Streets of Mos Espa” one of the worst live-action Star Wars episodes.
46 Obi-Wan Kenobi Part IV
Obi-Wan Kenobi Part IV could have been a fun Star Wars adventure centered on Obi-Wan. However, the potential of Obi-Wan infiltrating the Inquisitors’ base and facing the Inquisitors to save Princess Leia was completely wasted in a short and confusing episode. The resolution to the conflict, with Obi-Wan simply walking away from an Imperial base, was very disappointing.
45 The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 4, “The Gathering Storm”
The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 4 developed the relationship between Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, revealing more about their history and how they became partners. Despite being yet another flashback-heavy episode, “The Gathering Storm” worked surprisingly better than some of the previous The Book of Boba Fett episodes.
44 The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 2, ” The Passenger”
The Mandalorian season 2, episode 2 was one of the first examples of disappointing The Mandalorian episodes where viewers received a side quest rather than the main storyline. Instead of finding another Mandalorian that could help him, Mando had to assist the “frog Lady” get back home.
43 The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 3, “The Convert”
After two strong episodes, The Mandalorian season 3 took a surprising and arguably disappointing turn with “The Convert.” While The Mandalorian season 3, episode 3 was not a bad episode, it highlighted how weirdly paced The Mandalorian had become. Instead of Din Djarin and Bo-Katan, viewers were now following a secondary storyline that was only really revisited at the end of the season.
42 The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 1, “The Apostate”
The Mandalorian season 3, episode 1 had the difficult mission of kicking off a Mando and Grogu story after The Book of Boba Fett finale. Those who had not seen The Book of Boba Fett did not know that Mando and Grogu were reunited, after all. However, “The Apostate” succeeded in its mission and delivered a solid start for the season.
41 The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 4, “Sanctuary”
The Mandalorian season 1, episode 4 was heavily inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, which was always one of George Lucas’ biggest inspirations for Star Wars. Interestingly, Dave Filoni had done a “Seven Samurai” style story in Clone Wars. While “Sanctuary” was a good episode, it did not add much to season 1’s main story.
40 The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 2, “The Tribes of Tatooine”
After The Book of Boba Fett’s premiere failed to set the tone of the show, “The Tribes of Tatooine” ended up becoming the show’s true beginning. The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 2 introduced the pieces that would be important later in the season. This includes the Twins Huts and Krrsantan.
39 Obi-Wan Kenobi Part II
Whereas Obi-Wan Kenobi Part I focused on Obi-Wan and his life on Tatooine, Part II moved the plot and finally brought Darth Vader into play. Obi-Wan learning that Anakin Skywalker was alive was a chilling moment. Likewise, seeing live-action Inquisitors hunting Obi-Wan, even without a proper fighting scene, was exciting.
38 The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 7, “In The Name Of Honor”
After two episodes dedicated to the Mandalorian, Boba Fett returned to the spotlight in The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 7. “In the Name of Honor” was a satisfying finale for a season that had many problems. It also saw Mando and Grogu reuniting ahead of The Mandalorian season 3.
37 The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 5, “The Pirate”
The Mandalorian season 3, episode 5, “The Pirate” was a fun, action-packed episode in which a couple of different storylines came together. The suspicions of a larger plot involving Nevarro were confirmed, and the pirates from the first episode had a larger role. Seeing the Mandalorians help Nevarro brought their stories full circle, considering what happened in season 1.
36 The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 5, “The Gunslinger”
“The Gunslinger” featured one of the many The Mandalorian sidequests. Still, The Mandalorian season 1, episode 5 was an entertaining, well-paced adventure that also introduced Fennec Shand. In addition, it cemented how important Grogu had become for Din Djarin.
35 The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 4, “The Foundling”
The Mandalorian season 3, episode 4 continued the show’s strategy of revealing Grogu’s backstory through flashbacks. “The Foundling” finally answered who saved Grogu from Order 66, and the answer could not have been more exciting. Kerellan Beq, played by Ahmed Best, made his “scripted canon” debut as the Jedi Master who saved Grogu.
34 The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 2, “The Mines of Mandalore”
As an episode, “The Mines of Mandalore” had many qualities. This includes the visuals and the pacing. However, considering just how quickly and easily Din Djarin’s redemption mission was wrapped up, The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2 ended up being disappointing. That said, this episode proved that Mando’s journey would be different from what audiences were expecting from season 3.
33 The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 2, “The Child”
The Mandalorian premiered with an almost perfect episode, which raised the bar for episode 2. “The Child” is where Din Djarin and Grogu’s story really begins, and their interactions here would set the tone for the rest of the show. The Mandalorian season 1, episode 2 followed Mando on Tatooine, and it made Kuiil into a fan-favorite character.
32 The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 6, “The Prisoner”
A The Mandalorian heist episode featured a set of new characters, most of which were aliens from beloved Star Wars species, led by Din Djarin himself. “The Prisoner” had all the ingredients for a great The Mandalorian episode, and it did not disappoint. The betrayal followed by Mando having to take his former partners one by one was a highlight of the season.
31 Obi-Wan Kenobi Part V
Obi-Wan Kenobi Part V was essentially the first part of the series finale. All of the plotlines came together, and the truth about the Third Sister’s past was finally confirmed. The Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi flashbacks delivered the Star Wars prequels reunion audiences had been waiting for since Star Wars: Episode III – The Empire Strikes Back.
30 The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 3, “The Heiress”
The Mandalorian season 2, episode 3 highlighted how important Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels would be for the series. “The Heiress” introduced a live-action Bo-Katan, with Katee Sackhoff reprising her Clone Wars and Rebels role. It also teased that live-action Ahsoka Tano would appear in The Mandalorian, making it one of the most memorable episodes of the series.
