Everything We Know About The Dawn of the Seven

Everything We Know About The Dawn of the Seven

Aside from an on-set explosion and a cast member being canceled after connections to the Nazi party dramatically came to light, production on “Dawn of the Seven” is going swimmingly — but what’s happening with The Boys‘ movie-within-a-show in real life? Taking a cue from the original comics, Amazon’s The Boys holds nothing back in lampooning superhero culture, and with the MCU rampant, there’s no shortage of material. In the world of The Boys, Vought boasts its own movie franchise known as the VCU, with a bunch of made-up titles such as Homelander: Origins and the ominously titled Translucent: Invisible Force.

    SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the background of The Boys season 2, Vought’s top heroes are busily filming Dawn of the Seven, a team-up adventure blatantly ripping on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Viewers see behind-the-scenes drama as A-Train is written out (though, based on the website, he seems to be back in), and Queen Maeve’s sexuality is ruthlessly marketed. But also witnesses scenes from the finished product, such as the “girls getting it done” moment (take that Avengers: Endgame), and Homelander facing off against his Nazi ex-girlfriend. Clearly, The Boys‘ writing team has spent a great deal of time fleshing out Dawn of the Seven. This has led to some admittedly ambitious speculation that Amazon could release Dawn of the Seven as a feature-length in-universe parody of sorts.

While it would be a highly enjoyable feature film, Dawn of the Seven is simply an in-universe plotline. That hasn’t stopped The Boys‘ marketing team from going on a massive campaign to promote the fake movie. There’s now a Dawn of the Seven website in place that features a bombastic trailer boasting a June 3rd release date. There are also posters for the movie and individual prints of Homelander, Starlight, Queen Maeve, A-Train, and Black Noir. The fake movie trailer shows that Homelander will be facing off against his Nazi lover, Stormfront, in an epic all-out battle that’s sure to be one for the ages — at least, that’s how Vought will tell the story. Here’s everything that’s known about Dawn of the Seven, The Boys‘ fictional in-universe movie.

    Dawn Of The Seven’s Plot

The Boys Dawn Of The Seven Movie With Agent Pearson Queen Maeve and Ruby The Hacker

While a formal script has been written for the fictional Dawn of the Seven, people will find out in The Boys season 3 just how much the film makes it into the actual footage. A lot can be ascertained about the movie’s plot from The Boys season 2. During a hilarious pitch meeting scene, a storyboard depicts a villain called Martinez, whom Homelander attacks at his mansion hideout. Homelander arrests Martinez during a brief car chase, and this inspires him to form The Seven (in the movie world, at least). Apparently, this is just the teaser.

Elsewhere in Dawn of the Seven, a secret agent called Ruby helps The Seven save the world by hacking the Department of Homeland Security’s mainframe and embarks on a romantic relationship with Queen Maeve. Working with Agent Pearson (played by Greg Grunberg), Maeve, Starlight, and Stormfront must weave their way through an army of mutants attacking New York City to plug in a flash drive and “restore the grid.” Though, it looks like most of Stormfront’s footage has been stricken from the records after her Nazi scandal. Instead, she’ll be facing off with Homelander and the rest of The Seven. In the midst of the battle, A-Train quits the band, despite still being on the website’s fictional cast list.

Other confirmed details from the website and beyond show a CGI Translucent (voiced by Seth Rogen), and a score from Hans Zimmer. According to the fake trailer, a release is set for “June 3rd, only in theaters.” The website also includes hilarious fake movie reviews that tout the explosive quality of the film.

Dawn Of The Seven Does Have A Script

Aya Cash as Stormfront in The Boys

Although The Boys season 2 offers only a few brief glimpses of Dawn of the Seven, a script does exist in some form. On Amazon’s official The Boys podcast, Eric Kripke revealed that the script prop Stormfront holds during the aforementioned pitch meeting scene contains proper dialogue, rather than fake pages. As Kripke himself states, someone working on The Boys has written at least part of Dawn of the Seven. Sadly, the fact that this revelation took Kripke by surprise suggests a lack of intention on his part. Most likely, what has been written in the script will appear in The Boys season 3, as the Dawn of the Seven plotline continues to unfold.

Despite the fact that the Dawn of the Seven movie isn’t real, the in-universe film will still factor heavily into The Boys season 3. With season 2 covering the fraught filming process, The Boys‘ forthcoming run will explore the media promo circuit, the premiere, and the inevitable online backlash to the “Whedon rewrite” Homelander enjoyed so much. Kripke confirmed as much with a #TheDawnIsComing tweet that included two in-universe movie promo posters featuring Homelander and Starlight. At the same time, set photos have revealed a red carpet Dawn of the Seven premiere set. The official trailer for the fictional film can be watched on The Dawn of the Seven website, along with a movie poster and promo posters for The Seven.

Will Dawn Of The Seven Get An Independent Release?

The Boys: Why Homelander & Stormfront's Romance Is Doomed main image

The Dawn of the Seven movie is strictly an in-universe plotline and, therefore, will not receive an official theatrical release — despite the trailer and posters proclaiming a June 3rd release date. Considering that the June 3rd release promised by the fake film is The Boys season 3’s actual release date, the fictional movie obviously plays a significant role in The Boys season 3. While Amazon has the funds to make a feature-length tie-in happen, it doesn’t look like the platform is ready to take that financial plunge to produce what is essentially an in-joke.
