John Malkovich is the latest actor to join The Fantastic Four, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Character details are being kept in the Negative Zone in terms of who the actor will play in the Marvel Studios’ film about a famous family of superheroes.
Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Julia Garner is playing The Silver Surfer, while Paul Walter Hauser is among the cast in an undisclosed role.
Fantastic Four has a release date of July 25, 2025 and hails from WandaVision director Matt Shakman. Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer penned draft of the script, with Avatar: The Way of Water scribe Josh Friedman working on the latest version.
Fantastic Four is a cornerstone property for Marvel. Writer Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced the team with Fantastic Four No. 1 in 1961, a comic that launched the Marvel Universe and would grow to include an interconnected New York featuring various comic book heroes, such as Spider-Man and Daredevil. It previously was adapted for a pair of Tim Story-directed features in the 2000s, as well as Josh Trank’s disastrous 2015 movie. Roger Corman produced a B-movie version that was never released in the 1990s.
Malkovich earned Oscar nominations for Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire and his ’90s work is remembered for high-concept films such as Being John Malkovich and Con-Air. Recent credits include The New Look, Ripley and Billions. He is repped by WME.
