    Greenland Cast & Character Guide

Who was in the movie Greenland, and where have you seen the Greenland cast before? The 2020 end-of-days blockbuster was directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who reunites with his leading man from Angel Has Fallen. The storyline centers on a family who is separated after a comet strikes Earth.

The Greenland cast stars Gerard Butler as skyscraper engineer John Garrity, who attempts to repair a broken relationship with his wife, Allison. The couple has a son named Nathan, who has diabetes. When a comet strikes central Florida, the U.S. government offers to relocate the Garrity family to a Georgia shelter. However, John is accidentally separated from Allison and Nathan, and he must find a new way to protect his family before a nine-mile comet fragment wipes away an estimated 75% of plant and animal life on Earth. Greenland was released in December 2020, and in the U.S. it went to HBO Max.

At the same time, a character from To All the Boys I Loved Before portrays a man with intel about the titular destination. Was The Movie Greenland Filmed In Greenland?

    Gerard Butler in Greenland

Many people wonder if the Greenland cast had to haul themselves all the way to the country to film the movie. Despite the title, the disaster film wasn’t made in Greenland at all. Instead, Greenland was made in the United States. Studios used three separate shooting locations to complete the movie. Most of it was shot in Atlanta, Georgia (similar to The Walking Dead). Some of it was also filmed in Conyers, Georgia, and Robins Air Force Base, which is also located in Georgia.

Greenland 2 Is Happening Despite Corporate Takeover: What We Know

Morena Baccarin and Gerard Butler panic on a plane in Greenland

While a sequel to a disaster movie seems a bit out of the ordinary, the recent acquisition of the Najafi Companies by STX isn’t bringing Greenland: Migration down. The Greenland movie was one of the first to forgo a theatrical release in the U.S. due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, it came out almost immediately to HBO Max for streaming. Being one of the first big blockbuster films to succumb to the new model, many were worried that the movie wouldn’t perform. Ultimately, it made $58 million worldwide. Then, in 2021, STX bought the rights to the sequel, Greenland: Migration, in a lucrative deal during the Cannes market. They purchased the disaster movie Greenland sequel for more than $75 million.

In this deal, the company provided bankruptcy protection for the franchise to make sure that STX’s acquisition would go smoothly. Greenland 2 will be made one way or another despite the recent corporate takeover. The sequel film was announced shortly after the release of the first movie as studios wanted to jump on the chance of a budding franchise as quickly as possible. There’s no set release date for the new film, but it looks like most of the Greenland cast will be returning to the franchise, most notably Gerard Butler. Morena Baccarin will also be reprising her role as John Garrity’s wife, Allison. Greenland: Migration will follow the Garrity family as they try to forge a new life in Europe after leaving the bunker behind. In addition to the returning Greenland cast, the original director (Has Fallen franchise director Ric Roman Waugh) and screenwriter (Chris Sparling) will be making the sequel.
