Majora’s Mask Meets Tunic In New Adventure Game

Majora’s Mask Meets Tunic In New Adventure Game

Games from The Legend of Zelda series are easily some of the best and most iconic adventure games, including The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Similarly, games that have taken inspiration from Zelda‘s gameplay, like Tunic, can provide incredible puzzles and adventure or ARPG elements. But to top it all off, adding in elements of classic ARPGs of the 1990s, such as Landstalker, can end up making a pretty incredible looking game.

Even within the Zelda franchise, Majora’s Mask stands out with its unique storyline, where players are restricted to a three-day cycle before the moon crashes into Termina and destroys everything. The world itself is gloomier as the ever-present threat of death hangs in the air for all. Now, a new game is taking that same three-day theme and giving players yet another adventure to embark on, saving another community from a harrowing fate.

Zelda Fans, Don’t Miss This New Indie

Inspired by games like Landstalker and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, one indie developer known as Boot Danubien has been working away on a beautifully stylized approach to adventure. The game, Antediluvial : Yalroc Island, puts players in the role of a young recruit to the Canihuel Empire who has been sent to Yalroc Island, possibly due to the presence of a legendary military artifact of devastating power.

However, as the term “Antediluvial” implies, Yalroc Island is on the cusp of being destroyed by a massive flood in only three days time. Therefore, the game is based on a time loop, like Majora’s Mask, where you must try to survive the flood based on your actions and discoveries.

It sounds as though gameplay will have a bit of a roguelite mechanic in its three-day cycle. When things go wrong, you can restart a cycle anytime, and each time you restart the cycle you get to keep the equipment, island knowledge, and items you have gotten over previous attempts.

Currently, Yalroc Island is available to wishlist on Steam, but no release date has been given yet. The developer says they will also be starting a Kickstarter campaign soon.

Antediluvial: Yalroc Island Looks Super Interesting

One thing that immediately caught my attention about Antediluvial: Yalroc Island is the unique stylization of the graphics. The use of coloring and textures adds a depth to the game, and its darkness at night and in dungeons adds to the hopelessness of an approaching flood. Tackling the mysteries behind why you were sent to the island, what you can do to save it, and more sounds intriguing, and I can’t wait to learn more.

Unfortunately, the game is still in development, so we aren’t able to tackle the puzzles, fight the enemies, or explore the dungeons of Yarloc Island just yet. However, this game certainly looks like one to keep an eye on, whether by wishlisting it or backing it on Kickstarter to stay informed on when Antediluvial: Yalroc Island will be released.
