Ryan Gosling becomes Doflamingo in a new One Piece image edit, and the casting is proving popular online. Based on the popular Japanese manga series, which also inspired a beloved anime show, One Piece season 1 was released on Netflix at the end of August, earning mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. While the show introduces live-action versions of characters like Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, Roronoa Zoro, and Garp, other characters, like the villainous Doflamingo, have yet to appear.
Now, a recent tweet from One Piece Tweets on Twitter has imagined Barbie‘s own Ryan Gosling taking on the role of Doflamingo in Netflix’s One Piece adaptation with a new image edit. Check out the image below:
“Need him to play Doflamingo in the live action,” the post writes, accompanying images of Gosling as Ken wearing Doflamingo’s signature sunglasses. The post had many Twitter users expressing their agreement. You can view some of the responses below:
“Yeahhh bro,” Light ライト responds.
Rego Hurtado is evidently a fan of the casting idea, telling Gosling directly on Twitter to “do it.”
“Lmao so true,” rai writes in response to the image.
Ani Ulap also supports Gosling’s casting, writing “Fits perfectly!!!“
“Realy [sic] looks a bit like him,” Asberhug writes along with a gif of Doflamingo laughing.
Also in agreement is Anime Fandom, who replies, “Haha, It’s [100%] perfect“.
When Will Doflamingo Be Introduced In Netflix’s One Piece?
All 8 episodes of One Piece season 1 were released on Netflix on August 31, and Doflamingo didn’t appear in any of them. The series has now officially been renewed for season 2, meaning many of the characters and storylines that weren’t featured in season 1 will have an opportunity to appear in the next batch of episodes. As for whether Doflamingo will feature in One Piece season 2, however, remains to be seen.
Doflamingo doesn’t actually appear in the manga until relatively late and only shows up in the anime series in episode 151, meaning he may not make his live-action debut for some time. That being said, it’s certainly possible that One Piece season 2 will make some changes from the source material for the new batch of episodes, either moving up his introduction or, at the very least, setting the stage for it to happen in a prospective season 3.
Doflamingo is widely regarded as one of the best and most memorable One Piece villains, and it does seem likely that the show’s creators won’t want to delay his introduction too much. Netflix, after all, does have a reputation for canceling acclaimed series, and it’s unclear if One Piece will be able to maintain its popularity across multiple additional seasons. That being said, all signs point to the show continuing, meaning it’s very possible that viewers will meet Doflamingo sooner rather than later.
