Paramount Pictures has picked up the screenplay for erotic thriller Over Asking, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
In what is described as a highly competitive situation, the studio landed the feature spec script from Caroline Dries (Batwoman). The movie’s story focuses on the frightening aftermath that follows a chance encounter between a seemingly perfect couple and a powerful female attorney.
Karen Rosenfelt serves as producer on the project that does not yet have a director attached.
Dries served as showrunner on The CW series Batwoman and was on executive producer for The Vampire Diaries. Her other television credits include Smallville, Melrose Place, Arrow and Gotham Knights.
Rosenfelt was credited as an executive producer on the first Twilight movie and served as producer on the franchise’s subsequent films. She has also worked on such films as The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Me Before You and The New Mutants. Rosenfelt’s television credits include serving as executive producers on such series as The Summer I Turned Pretty and Dopesick.
This has been a busy week for Paramount, as the studio is set to be acquired by a consortium led by Skydance. This week also saw the release of the first trailer for the studio’s forthcoming historical epic Gladiator II from director Ridley Scott that stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn.
The follow-up to Scott’s Oscar-winning 2000 film Gladiator — which starred Russell Crowe in the title role — hits theaters Nov. 22 and is set to be a major fall play for the studio.
Deadline was first to report on the Over Asking script sale.
