According to a new leak, Pokémon Winds and Waves will break a huge tradition, but it may be an exciting thing to see. Even though the official details about the Generation 10 games have been scarce so far, as The Pokémon Company has only really announced them with a teaser trailer, there have been a few leaks about their content, and a lot of it seems reliable. There’s been a leak about new forms for Pikachu in Pokémon Winds and Waves, as well as Lucario, Arcanine, and many other creatures.
Now, yet another leak has emerged, and it may significantly spice things up. According to a post by Centro Leaks on X, which references a massive leak called the Teraleak, the Gen 10 games will be fully turn-based, as had already been rumored, but there’s a catch. The leak mentions that there will be a big change to the battle system as we know it now, and that players may be faced with quite challenging encounters in a way that they haven’t for several years.
According to the leak, battles won’t be limited to single or double encounters. Instead, “any amount of opposing Pokémon can join and exit the battle at any time,” says the leaker, referencing Legends: Z-A. The previous combat system leaks for Pokémon Winds and Waves mentioned that the titles would have roaming creatures in an open-world instance, not unlike Legends: Arceus, Scarlet and Violet, and Legends: Z-A. However, it seems like this time around, the limitation will be broader.
In response to questions to their original post, Centro Leaks highlights that it’s still unknown if there is a limit to how many Pokémon can join a battle, but that the aforementioned Teraleak showcased nine opposing Charizard. Moreover, the leaker mentions that Horde Encounters, first introduced with X and Y, are a returning feature in Pokémon Winds and Waves. Given the overworld system with roaming creatures, it’s unclear exactly how Horde Encounters will present themselves in the Gen 10 games.
Nevertheless, it seems like these massive encounters in the upcoming titles will present themselves in a similar fashion to the Legends: Z-A game, where nearby creatures can aggro your Trainer. However, instead of joining a real-time battle, they will join a turn-based combat in Pokémon Winds and Waves.
For now, these leaks should be taken with a huge grain of salt, even if leaks regarding the games have been reliable in the past. While it seems like The Pokémon Company is nearly done with the games’ structure and is polishing it, there is still space for changes, so it’s best to manage expectations created around leaks for Pokémon Winds and Waves.
