Release Prediction, Confirmation Chances & Everything We Know

Release Prediction, Confirmation Chances & Everything We Know

    Summary

    • A live-action Frozen remake from Disney is a popular rumor, but it hasn’t been officially confirmed by the company yet.
    • If a live-action Frozen remake does happen, it would likely be released in 2027-2028 or later, considering the time it takes to develop and produce.
    • While there’s no official casting news, fans have suggested Anna Kendrick as Anna and Evan Rachel Wood, Amanda Seyfried, or Florence Pugh as possible actresses to play Elsa. Some fans also want actors from Disney’s Once Upon A Time to reprise their roles.

Rumors of a live-action Frozen remake from Disney sent fan circles online into a frenzy, and while the project has been discussed a few times over the years nothing official has ever materialized. 2013’s Frozen was an unexpected mega-success for Disney, and is arguably the most successful new franchise from the House of Mouse in the 21st century so far. Based on Chris Henderson’s story The Snow Queen, the Frozen movies focus on Elsa and Anna, the Queen and Princess of Arendelle.

Frozen is a tale that combines the power of love between siblings with a talking snowman, a plot that involves a land covered in ice, a mystical queen with superpowers, and some of the best Disney songs in decades. It was an instant hit, as was the sequel Frozen 2 in 2019. Given the popularity of the franchise that still endures a decade later it’s easy to see why the idea of a live-action Frozen remake gained instant popularity.

Release Prediction, Confirmation Chances & Everything We Know

The latest news on a Disney live-action remake of Frozen came on October 18, 2023. It was reported by various outlets that a live-action Frozen was in the works alongside a few other leaked Disney remakes such as The Princess and the Frog and Tarzan (via Looper). However, the reports were all purely speculative, and nothing has been announced by Disney yet beyond the upcoming Frozen 3, which is currently in development.

    The Live-Action Frozen Isn’t Confirmed

Elsa and Anna in 2013's Frozen II

A live-action remake of Frozen isn’t confirmed. Rumors persisted in 2023 that one was in the works, however, Disney hasn’t made anything official. Given the popularity of the idea and the fact that a live-action Moana is also in the works, it’s possible that the modern megahit franchise Frozen could get the live-action treatment from the House of Mouse alongside their animated 20th-century classics in the future.

    Live-Action Frozen Release Date Prediction

Elsa and Anna look off to the side shocked in Frozen II.

The Frozen live-action movie doesn’t have a release date from Disney yet, as the remake isn’t official and isn’t believed to be in development. If it gets confirmed it will likely take several years to develop and produce, meaning a live-action Frozen premiere in 2027-2028 or later is the most realistic projection (though until it gets confirmed even this is optimistic). Given how successful Frozen and Frozen 2 have been for Disney it’s likely that a live-action version would have a theatrical release rather than be a Disney+ exclusive.

    Live-Action Frozen Cast Speculation

Anna and Elsa in 2013's Frozen

The live-action Frozen cast has been discussed extensively online ever since rumors of the remake first surfaced. While nothing has been made official by Disney there are already plenty of suggestions made by fans as to who could play Anna, Elsa, Christoph, and the other Frozen characters in live-action.

Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) has been one name touted as the live-action Anna, while who could play Elsa in a live-action Disney Frozen remake has multiple suggestions including Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!), and Florence Pugh (Midsommar).

Some fans have also pointed out that a live-action Elsa and Anna appeared in Disney’s Once Upon A Time, played by Georgina Haig (Reckless) and Elizabeth Lail (Ordinary Joe). The casting appears to have won over many fans of Frozen, as there are numerous calls for the pair to reprise their roles in a live-action Frozen cast.

    Live-Action Frozen Story Details

    Sven with Kristoff in Frozen

There aren’t any hints about what the story of the live-action Frozen remake would be and what changes, if any, Disney would make to the plot for the change of medium. Unlike Disney’s older movies such as Snow White, Peter Pan, or The Lady and the Tramp, 2013’s Frozen doesn’t have many problematic elements that would need rectifying for modern audiences. This means it’s likely that very little would be altered for a live-action Frozen remake, and it could even be possible that Disney would recreate the megahit movie almost shot-for-shot.
