An eagle-eyed Sims 4 fan has spotted what seems to be a clear reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender included as part of the upcoming Werewolf DLC.
The upcoming Werewolves Game Pack for The Sims 4 seems to have a cleverly hidden Avatar: The Last Airbender Easter egg, as spotted by one eagle-eyed Redditor. In Werewolves, players can discover hidden lore about the origins of Sim werewolves and other magical beings through books and secret tunnels.
Sims 4 fans have waited a long time for werewolves to join the game, with the Supernatural-type creatures having been included in previous Sims releases. The Game Pack will offer a host of new Create-a-Sim items, gameplay elements, and the new world of Moonwood Mill for fans to enjoy when it launches on June 16. The game developers began teasing the Game Pack some time before its official reveal earlier this month, leaving fans to speculate over cryptic messages from the Sims team which were quickly deciphered by players. While the first look at Sims 4‘s werewolves was somewhat controversial, with many players comparing the cartoon-like Sims werewolves to the Cats musical, excitement in general for the Pack is high.
In the hidden tunnels in The Sims 4 Werewolves, there is a chance for the player to find an Avatar: The Last Airbender Easter egg. Reddit user allinsimstime posted a screenshot from a recent Sims 4 developer livestream where a Sim explores one of the secret tunnels, and spotted a reference to a song from Avatar. An in-game pop-up for the tunner reads: “As Luna is making her way through the tunnel, she starts making up a song in her head. ‘Secret Tun-nel…Secret Tun-NEL!’ It’s a catchy song. She’ll have to remember it.” The words appear to be a direct link to Avatar – and the earworm song that has stayed within fans’ heads for years. Players will be able to find the Easter egg for themselves when the DLC launches later this month.
The Sims game reference to Avatar: The Last Airbender comes from the episode, “The Cave of Two Lovers.” Fans likely remember it for the romance, the lore on the origins of earthbending, the city of Omashu, and Uncle Iroh accidentally poisoning himself by making tea, but most of all for the secret tunnel song. In the episode, Aang and his friends meet a wandering band of musicians who tell them, through music, about a tunnel they can travel through to avoid the Fire Nation. The song tells of the legendary lovers Oma and Shu and how they couldn’t be together due to their homelands being at war, so they used earthbending to make a labyrinth of tunnels through a mountain to meet in secret.
While perhaps not directly related to The Sims 4 – or the upcoming Werewolves DLC – the quote serves as a little nod to anyone who has ever gotten the Avatar: The Last Airbender secret tunnel song stuck in their head. While the Easter egg is likely nothing more than the Sims developers showing their love for the series, the reference shows how pervasive the song is. Whether players want to explore these tunnels for the werewolf lore or see if there are more hidden Easter eggs, The Sims 4 Werewolves will soon be available for fans to enjoy.
