Thor & Namor’s Hammer Is The Most Powerful Mjolnir Variant In Marvel’s Multiverse

Thor & Namor’s Hammer Is The Most Powerful Mjolnir Variant In Marvel’s Multiverse

Marvel introduces a multiversal version of Thor‘s Mjolnir that leaves the original hammer in the dust. Out of all the powerful weapons in the Marvel Universe, Mjolnir is probably the most famous. It hails from real-life Norse mythology, and it has a long history settling world-threatening conflicts in Marvel Comics.

Thor’s hammer has received multiple copycats throughout the years. Stormbreaker is forged for Beta Ray Bill, Thor’s pre-Mjolnir axe, Jarnbjorn, prioritizes brute force. Thunderstrike, wielded by Eric Masterson, is a more grounded, mortal-friendly reinterpretation. Storm’s Stormcaster is a Mjolnir copy designed by Loki, and Marvel’s original Ultimate Universe features portraying Mjolnir as advanced alien technology. The total number of hammers in the multiverse is unknown, and Thor’s original Mjolnir is certainly not the most powerful.

Previously on Spider-Man & Wolverine, the titular duo find themselves in an alternate timeline where the Avengers don’t exist. Instead, a team of character hybrids dominate the world, calling themselves the Revengers. In issue #9, Spider-Man bumps into Namthor’s hammer, which reads, “whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of thunder and the seven seas.”

By himself, Namthor is technically one of the physically strongest Marvel characters introduced in recent years, fusing Thor and Namor’s godlike physique and long list of abilities. Namthor’s hammer takes things to the next level, capable of granting the power of both the most powerful Asgardian and the king of the seas. To put that into perspective, Thor is powerful enough to destroy entire civilizations, and Namor is strong enough to withstand the oceans’ pressure and go toe-to-toe with the Hulk.

Spider-Man Explains Why Powerful Multiversal Variants Aren’t More Relevant

While fighting the Revengers, Spider-Man realizes that, since the villains’ world has zero heroes, “these clowns have never been in an actual fight.” Therefore, the Revengers’ incredible power doesn’t matter, as they have little experience using them in battle. Indeed, neither Namor nor Thor would leave their primary weapon lying around the battlefield, as un-liftable as it may be.

Something similar may happen in every timeline that houses powerful characters and character hybrids. In theory, multiversal character fusions like Iron Ghost should pop up more often and use their unique abilities in multversal battles. However, they may not stand out in the higher multiversal order since their universes aren’t as eventful as timelines like Earth-616 and Earth-1610.

    Spider-Man & Wolverine #9 is available from Marvel Comics January 21, 2026.
