Twilight Princess Official Remaster Slammed By Gamers

Twilight Princess Official Remaster Slammed By Gamers

Launching back in 2016 as a remastered version of 2006’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD arrived on the Wii U, allowing players the chance to experience one of the greatest games of all time with a new-and-improved look. However, now that enough time has passed, it seems as though this official Twilight Princess remaster should have perhaps stayed on Nintendo’s drawing board.

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Could Be Better

Taking place over a century after the events of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess sees players once again take on the role of Link, who must fight to protect Hyrule from being engulfed in a corrupted parallel dimension known as the Twilight Realm. Praised for its level design, combat, story, characters, and art direction, Twilight Princess is often regarded as one of the best entries in the long-running Nintendo series, so it came as no surprise when it received an HD remaster back in 2016.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD launched to an 86/100 score on Metacritic, with the remaster receiving generally favorable reviews. With the game even going on to win Nintendo Game of the Year award at the Golden Joystick Awards, you would assume that the HD remaster was loved by fans. However, a decade on from release, fans agree that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess deserved a much better remaster.

“We do not s**t on Twilight Princess HD enough,” one user recently shared over on Twitter, which led to an influx of hate for the 2016 remaster. “Unironically, at least Wind Waker HD is capable of being pretty sometimes. The Twilight Princess remake just exists to trick you into thinking the game looks worse than it ever did.”

“This remake was so disappointing,” another user agreed. “I was really hoping for something a little more comparable to the Wii U tech demo.” Another user added, “TPHD felt like a true downgrade. I feel like all you would need to fix most of it is just stretch the textures across single surfaces instead of using the dense tiling. Sure it would look blurry, but at least you would get the great color variation of the original.”

“We need a Nintendo Switch 2 version,” one fan commented, and it seems as though many others agree. At the time of writing, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is not available to play on either the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2, despite rumors suggesting that a port is on the cards. As such, we have not had the pleasure of receiving a modern-day look at the 2006 entry. However, with its Wii U HD remaster seemingly leaving a lot to the imagination, could a Nintendo Switch version also lose the magic of the original?

Only time will tell, but for now, let us hope that Nintendo is secretly working on that highly-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess remake.
