What’s The Next Kingsman Movie? What We Know About Kingsman: Blue Blood

What’s The Next Kingsman Movie? What We Know About Kingsman: Blue Blood

The King’s Man takes audiences back to the birth of the royal secret service in the early 1900s, but what will the next Kingsman movie be?

Director Matthew Vaughn has stated he wants to continue his action franchise, so what will the next Kingsman movie be? First released domestically on December 22nd, 2021, The King’s Man marks the third Kingsman movie to date, with Vaugn’s latest offering drawing a decidedly mixed critical reception. Yet these middling reviews have done little to dampen Vaughn’s, or indeed 20th Century Studios’, desire for more suave spy action, with a fourth Kingsman installment confirmed for release sometime in 2023.

Vaughn’s grand vision for the Kingsman franchise is far-reaching, with several sequel plans already in place. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn has floated ideas to portray the first decade of the Kingsman agency with all the surprise characters revealed at the end of The King’s Man, stating “the second The King’s Man is nearly ready to go.” Conversely, the franchise director has also had plans in place as far back as 2017 to create a sequel to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, as well as a spin-off movie tentatively titled The Statesman that will follow Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Halle Berry’s Kingsman characters in America.

Yet despite this wealth of potential options, the next Kingsman movie is confirmed to be Kingsman: The Blue Blood. Set for an expected 2023 release date, Kingsman: The Blue Blood will definitively serve as the conclusion of Harry Hart (Colin Firth) and Eggsy’s (Taron Egerton) tumultuous relationship, although other plot details remain scant for now. Vaughn has also touted several stars to join in on the espionage action, with Dwayne Johnson and Mark Strong just two names floated to interact with the Kingsman service this time around.

Everything We Know About Kingsman: The Blue Blood

After setting up the Kingsman organization’s origins in The King’s Man, Kingsman: The Blue Blood will return to the present day. Set to directly follow the events of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Blue Blood will focus on Harry and Eggsy’s increasingly paternal bond while also likely bringing back Eggsy’s new wife Tilde (Hanna Alström) and the U.S. agent Tequila (Channing Tatum) who joined the Kingsman service at the end of The Golden Circle after recovering from his wounds. While other plot details remain few and far between, Vaughn has confirmed Kingsman: The Blue Blood will be the last linear Kingsman movie, hinting at a climactic and engrossing finale for the franchise’s first film series.

Outside of Kingsman: The Blue Blood‘s plot, the upcoming Kingsman movie already has several big names linked with the project. As aforementioned, Kingsman‘s Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Hanna Alström, and Channing Tatum are all set to reprise their previous roles from The Golden Circle. Franchise director Vaughn has also not been shy about his desire to see Dwayne Johnson take on an unnamed role as The Blue Blood‘s primary villain, while there has also been talk of Mark Strong reprising his role as Hamish Mycroft/Merlin, although quite how this would be accomplished remains to be seen given his demise via landmine at the end of The Golden Circle. Regardless of who fills these currently vacant roles, Kingsman: The Blue Blood is set to be a rip-roaring conclusion to the Harry and Eggsy timeline in 2023.

Why Kingsman Being A Trilogy Is The Right Call

Given how successful the three franchise films have been so far (despite some of the glaring mistakes in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and The King’s Man), it may come as a bit of a surprise that Kingsman: The Blue Blood is intended to be the final installment of Harry and Eggsy’s story. However, this is a very savvy call on Vaughn’s part. For one, it allows Colin Firth and Taron Egerton’s characters to quit while they’re ahead, rather than becoming pantomimes of the interesting characters they once were as the film series wears on and on. Likewise, by focusing instead on compelling spinoff projects like the Statesmen and The King’s Man‘s earlier historical timeline, the entire franchise can avoid the pitfall that big studios like Marvel seem to be slipping into – namely piling onto one central story too much. Future Kingsman projects won’t be beholden to the story that the first film began, and the trilogy format offers a tried-and-true method for that story to come to its natural conclusion instead.
