    Where to Watch Your Honor

    Where to Watch Your Honor

Learn where to watch Your Honor, which sees Bryan Cranston portraying a judge forced to abandon the legal system in order to protect his son.

    Where to Watch Your Honor

Uncover the mystery of where to watch Your Honor, a gripping drama about a judge who will cross any legal boundaries to protect his son.

In Your Honor, as Michael Desiato, Bryan Cranston finds himself in another leading role, this time playing a New Orleans judge who goes the extra mile to ensure justice is served in his courtroom. Acting more as an attorney than a judge, Michael makes it a point to question witnesses including police officers about their testimony when their stories don’t add up. In one instance, he goes so far as to visit the scene where an alleged crime occurs and discovers that an officer’s first-hand account of drug activity isn’t credible because of the home’s layout. When his son, Adam played by Hunter Doohan, suffers an asthma attack while driving and hits and kills another young man on a motorcycle, Michael shows the same devotion to protecting his son as he does with upholding the law. Michael’s first instinct after hearing Adam’s account of the accident is to bring him to the police station to turn himself in. However, once Michael realizes the victim of the accident is a brutal mobster’s son, he realizes Adam’s confession would be a death sentence, and he feels forced to abandon the legal process in order to save him.

How Does Bryan Cranston’s Character in Your Honor Differ from Walter White?

Bryan Cranston as Michael Desiato in Your Honor

It seems almost impossible to talk about Michael Desiato in Your Honor without drawing comparisons to Walter White in Breaking Bad. Bryan Cranston, anticipating this line of questioning from the media and fans, has noted that Walter White’s transition from cancer-stricken law-abiding teacher to a drug lord in order to provide for his family, was methodical and planned as well as circumstances allowed. On the other hand, in Your Honor, Michael Desiato doesn’t have the luxury of even a week or a month to decide how to respond to mob-boss Jimmy Baxter, played by Michael Stuhlberg, who launches an immediate campaign to find out who was responsible for his son’s death. Fortunately for his son Adam, Michael has an acute knowledge of all aspects of the legal system, as well as numerous connections operating inside the legal system and politics to help the judge dispose of crime-scene evidence. Still, even as Michael tries to plan for every contingency, unforeseen complications arise, and as the first season unfolds, so does the web of lies the judge has constructed to keep his son safe from Jimmy Baxter.

In Your Honor, with famous New Orleans cemeteries as the setting for several scenes, the tone of the show is serious from the first opening scenes to the closing credits of the 10th and final episode of the first season. In Breaking Bad, Walter White’s secret exploits as a meth dealer are contrasted by a relatively stable and happy home life with an unsuspecting son and wife. However, in this crime drama, the car accident that sets in motion the events of the first season takes place exactly one year after the death of Michael’s wife and Adam’s mother. In Your Honor, both father and son are still trying to cope with the tragedy that has already broken their family, and Michael is desperate to see that Adam has the bright future that his mother had hoped for. There are no characters like Saul Goodman to provide hints of comic relief among the gloominess. Yet audiences can sympathize with the judge and his son who feel as if they have no other option but to lie, and the sense of impending doom that Michael’s plans will fall apart is enough to hold viewers’ attention until the riveting season finale.

Petter Moffat’s Your Honor, which is based on the Israeli TV series Kvodo, made an effective transition to a New Orleans setting and was renewed for a second season in 2021. The official trailer for season 2 sees a bearded Michael Desiato still clearly reeling from the events of the first season’s conclusion, forced to face the consequences of his scheming. Atonement seems to be a common theme for Michael in season 2, as he confronts the Baxter crime family in an attempt to win back the favor of the New Orleans legal system. As viewers saw in the first season, it may be a grieving and enraged Gina Baxter, played with conviction by Hope Davis, that is his true enemy rather than her husband Jimmy.

You can watch the entire first season of Your Honor streaming on Showtime now, ahead of the season 2 premiere on January 13.
