The Show Takes A More Grounded Approach With Its Post-Apocalyptic Setting
From has risen in the ranks to become one of the valuable IPs for MGM+, which is not surprising since the show never leaves a dull moment and keeps viewers heavily invested by introducing one dark mystery after another. With season 4 confirmed, From will remain one of the better shows on the network. However, while From continues telling its story of the trapped citizens of a nightmarish town, another MGM+ show seems to be showing some potential. Based on George R. Stewart’s novel, Earth Abides is the newest addition to MGM+’s catalog of thriller movies and shows.
Starring Alexander Ludwig (of the Vikings, Heels, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die fame), Earth Abides adopts a familiar story setup, where the main character, Ish, sleeps through a post-apocalyptic event and awakens at the dawn of its disastrous aftermath. Despite having a well-worn opening, Earth Abides promises to explore new territory with its expansive exploration of a post-apocalyptic world. As its trailer and source material suggest, its story will unfold across generations and walk through the ups and downs, highs and lows humanity experiences while rebuilding civilization.

From‘s world is not exactly post-apocalyptic like that of Earth Abides. Instead, its characters get trapped in a strange town haunted by mysterious supernatural beings. Earth Abides, unlike From, also has no supernatural drama and attempts to ground its post-apocalyptic narrative in realism.
