Turns out Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t the only artist who refused to clear a sample for Kanye West’s new album. The rapper also apparently requested and was denied permission to feature Donna Summer’s disco classic “I Feel Love” on his newly released collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures Pt. 1. But, just as he did with Ozzy, West apparently disregard the wishes of Summer’s estate and went ahead and featured the song without their permission.
A version of “I Feel Love” is interpolated on the Vultures track “GOOD (DON’T DIE).” Summer’s estate isn’t sure if West had someone re-sing the song or utilized AI technology, but they are clear about one thing: it’s “copyright infringement.”
“Kanye West…asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song ‘I Feel Love,’ he was denied,” the estate wrote in a statement posted to Instagram. “He changed the words, had someone re sing it or used AI but it’s I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!!”
Summer’s estate tagged Sharon Osbourne in their post; Ozzy’s wife and manager has already threatened her own legal action against West over his unauthorized use of a performance of Ozzy singing “Iron Man.” Following Osbourne’s threats, West reportedly removed the Ozzy sample from the album.
