Ethan Hawke and Maya Hawke, the father-daughter actor and musician duo, have shared a new Christian Lee Hutson-assisted cover of the Willie Nelson song “We Don’t Run.” It appears on Light in the Attic & Friends, a Record Store Day Black Friday compilation (November 24) featuring covers of songs released on the storied reissue label. “This song is off Willie’s brilliant album Spirit, which has been a mainstay in our home since it was released in 1996,” Ethan Hawke said in a statement. “Everybody needs a good anthem song. The compilation includes several new recordings, including Vashti Bunyan and Devendra Banhart doing “How Could You Let Me Go” by Lynn Castle, Roedelius doing a Tinariwen song, Mary Lattimore’s cover of Hiroshi Yoshimura’s “Blink,” and Steve Gunn with Bridget St. John tackling Michael Chapman’s “Rabbit Hills.” There’s a supergroup of sorts doing the Louvin Brothers’ “Kneeling Drunkard’s Plea”: Swamp Dogg, Tim Heidecker, John C. Reilly, and Jenny Lewis. It also includes previously released recordings from Iggy Pop with Zig Zags, Mac DeMarco, Angel Olsen, Charles Bradley, Badbadnotgood, and the late Mark Lanegan.
