The hit Netflix show, Stranger Things, is heading to Broadway.
A new play titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow is coming to the Great White Way’s Marquis Theatre, transporting audiences to the town of Hawkins in 1959 for a prequel story featuring characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Byers, Bob Newby, and more.

What Is Stranger Things: The First Shadow?
Written by Kate Trefry and directed by Stephen Daldry, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a prequel story set in the Stranger Things universe. According to its press release, the show will offer audiences a glimpse into Hawkins in 1959, “before the world turned upside down.”
“Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town,” the press release explains. ‘When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

Beyond its story, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is also set to be a technical feat with “stunning special effects.” After it premiered on London’s West End in 2023, the show won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Best Set Design.

Hosted at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre, Stranger Things: The First Shadow will begin preview performances on Friday, March 28th, and will officially open on Tuesday, April 22nd.
