Burgess recently shared the tweet with his fans, in which he relays a conversation that saw him forget his train of thought.

Explaining that he “forgot I was on a phone call about council tax”, he said the person on the other line asked: “What band are you in?”. He replied: “Erm, The Charlatans”, to which the other party then said: “Your council tax band.”

The resulting tweet has since clocked up over 278,400 views on X.

Forgot I was on a phone call about council tax…

Them: What band are you in?

    Me: Erm, The Charlatans

    Them: Your council tax band

Following up the tweet, Burgess joked: “I share inner most ideas, serious homespun philosophy and some great photos of coffee, but it’s this tweet that’s ended up going crackers.”

Earlier today (April 7), he also paid tribute to Blondie drummer Clem Burke who has died after battling cancer.

He wrote: “Oh man Clem Burke was the epitome of a super cool drummer – so influential and a lovely guy.”

Burgess is also currently doing a Q&A tour of the UK with his final date set to wrap up on April 27 at the Manchester AO Arena. You can purchase tickets here.

He has also announced a new book entitled How High after the single from The Charlatans’ 1997 album ‘Tellin’ Stories’, featuring his words and photos by Tom Sheehan, which is out on October 2. Signed copies are available here.

Elsewhere, Burgess recently announced a new event in Manchester called Merch Market – where bands can sell their merchandise for free and keep 100 per cent of the income.

The market is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 25 and entry is free. Participating venues the O2 Ritz Manchester, Gorilla and Dog Bowl – all within a one-minute walk of each other – will feature stalls, live performances, DJ sets, on-stage interviews and panels.

Artists and manufacturers who are interested in getting involved with the Merch Market can sign up to request a stall. You can do so via the Help Us Help Bands website.

It comes after Burgess previously spoke out about venues that took an unfair cut of merch sales, saying: “The whole system needs addressing.”
