Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Calls Out Biden For Claiming Raising Taxes Will Fix Inflation

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Calls Out Biden For Claiming Raising Taxes Will Fix Inflation

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos took to Twitter this weekend to call out the Biden Administration’s role in causing record high inflation.

The feud began on May 13 when President Joe Biden tweeted, “You want to bring down inflation? Let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share.” A comment that clearly struck a nerve with Bezos.

Bezos replied that perhaps Biden’s newly created Disinformation Board, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, should review Biden’s tweet.

The newly created Disinformation Board should review this tweet, or maybe they need to form a new Non Sequitur Board instead. Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection. https://t.co/ye4XiNNc2v

While Bezos is rightly skeptical that raising corporate taxes will decrease inflation, (which remains at a 40-year high), newly-minted White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre struggled to give a coherent answer as to why Biden’s view was correct.

Bezos wasn’t finished with Team Biden, though.

On May 15 Bezos weighed in on Biden taking a victory lap for decreasing the deficit, noting that had Biden had his druthers, that wouldn’t be the case: “In fact, the administration tried hard to inject even more stimulus into an already over-heated, inflationary economy and only Manchin saved them from themselves. Inflation is a regressive tax that most hurts the least affluent. Misdirection doesn’t help the country.”

His tweet refers to Senator Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) heroic vote against Biden’s landmark 3.5 trillion spending package. Manchin was the sole Democrat to vote against the bill.

“I’ve never found out that you can lower costs by spending more,” Manchin said.

    White House Addresses Bezos Tweets

In a statement on Monday, the White House replied to Bezos.

“It doesn’t require a huge leap to figure out why one of the wealthiest individuals on Earth opposes an economic agenda for the middle class that cuts some of the biggest costs families face, fights inflation for the long haul, and adds to the historic deficit reduction the President is achieving by asking the richest taxpayers and corporations to pay their fair share,” deputy White House press secretary Andrew Bates said.

Bezos wasn’t falling for the subterfuge, and accused the White House of “muddying the topic.”

Look, a squirrel! This is the White House’s statement about my recent tweets. They understandably want to muddy the topic. They know inflation hurts the neediest the most. But unions aren’t causing inflation and neither are wealthy people. Remember the Administration tried… pic.twitter.com/GaMb3Kiu72

their best to add another $3.5 TRILLION to federal spending. They failed, but if they had succeeded, inflation would be even higher than it is today, and inflation today is at a 40 year high.
