In the eyes of Democrats, the January 6 riot at the Capitol was nearly the end of democracy and the United States as we know it. And former President Donald Trump was the mastermind behind the effort, to their reckoning.
So imagine how distraught they and the current President must be to learn that Joe Biden’s approval rating, according to major polls, sits lower than Trump’s was immediately following the Capitol riot.
According to the RealClearPolitics (RCP) average between July 5th and July 20th, Biden’s approval rating is a staggeringly low 36.8%, compared to 57.5% who disapprove, a difference of -20.7%.
In a 10-day span following the events at the Capitol, Trump’s RCP average approval sat at 41.1% with 56.1% who disapproved, a difference of -15.0%.
The 4.3% difference in approval and 5.7% margin on net approval are typically outside of the margin of error for most polls.
While neither man’s approval rating is anything to crow about, Biden’s is markedly worse considering the timeframe Trump’s was taken came as America as Democrats knew it and the media portrayed it, was ending.

One poll out of Quinnipiac University underscores just how bad Biden’s approval rating is compared to his predecessor.
Currently, they have Biden at 31% approval whereas Trump saw a substantial drop in his rating following January 6th, but even then it only hit 33%.
Quinnipiac notes that the 31% is the lowest of Biden’s presidency and he is underwater in nearly every category with the exception of his handling of the COVID pandemic (which, at this point, seems more a function of sympathy – ‘Hey, let’s give him credit for something‘ – than anything else).
Perhaps the most devastating of those numbers is in regards to the economy, something that affects every single American voter, where he sits at just a 28% approval rating.
To put it in perspective, Americans like doing puppetry as much as they like President Joe Biden.

Worse Than Trump Has to Hurt
Biden’s approval numbers put him in the same category as some of the worst presidents in the history of the United States – including Jimmy Carter, James Buchanan, and Andrew Johnson.
Former Representative Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat, actually said the President “will be remembered as being worse than Jimmy Carter.”
Gabbard’s comments were an insult to be sure. But what truly has to stick in Biden’s craw is the fact that his approval ratings are lower than a guy he once referred to as “the worst president America has ever had.”

Biden now has a firm grip on that title instead. And I bet he’s just twisted up about it.
NBC News reported in May that President Biden was “rattled by his sinking approval ratings.”
“He’s now lower than Trump, and he’s really twisted about it,” a White House source said at the time.

Democrats are so alarmed by Biden’s sinking approval numbers that they are reportedly considering a primary challenge to his nomination in 2024.
The Hill reports that Democrat colleagues and aides are growing weary of defending the deeply unpopular Biden and the “willingness to prop up the sinking president has been wearing thin.”
