McConnell Attacks Rand Paul As ‘Isolationist’ For Putting America First Before Ukraine

McConnell Attacks Rand Paul As ‘Isolationist’ For Putting America First Before Ukraine

When he wasn’t busy ramming massive aid packages for foreign countries through the Senate, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took a swipe at his fellow Kentucky Senator Rand Paul on Thursday, calling him “an isolationist.”

McConnell’s comments come as a response to Paul’s delaying of the $40 billion aid package to Ukraine that the Senate voted on earlier this week. The measure was ultimately passed with only 11 ‘nay’ votes, all from Republicans.

Why did Mitch McConnell just go to Ukraine for a photo op with Zelensky instead of addressing US inflation, record high gas prices, the immigration crisis, or the baby formula shortage?

    McConnell Attacks America First

On Thursday, during an appearance on Fox News, host Bret Baier played a clip of Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who said, “It appears more and more, MAGA Republicans are on the same ‘soft on Putin playbook’ that we saw used by former President Trump.” Schumer added, “The MAGA influence on the Republican Party is becoming all too large and all too dominant.”

Eleven Republicans, including Paul, voted against the money for Ukraine.

Baier asked McConnell, “How do you react to that?” McConnell’s response, not just of Schumer, but also Paul,

“Yeah, what Schumer said is political nonsense. My colleague Senator Paul has always been – basically – an isolationist. He’s proud of it and believes that’s where America ought to be. That is a tiny percentage of the Senate Republican conference. We only had 11 votes against the package. I predict we will have even fewer votes opposed to the admission of Finland and Sweden into NATO.”

Sadly, McConnell is right about only a tiny fraction of elected Republicans being America First.

Mitch McConnell efforts to send the 40 million in aid to Ukraine is against his parties and MAGA views. We have too many reasons to keep that money at home. He needs to go.

Aid To Foreign Nations But Not For Americans

Mitch McConnell has been very clear about where his priorities lie. Prior to the House vote on the package, McConnell stopped in front of the first camera he saw and declared that, “I think we all agree the most important thing going on in the world right now is the war in Ukraine.”

This while Americans continue to struggle with inflation, high food and gas prices, and a getting more serious by the day baby formula shortage.

Paul characterized the massive spending bill for Ukraine as a “slap in the face” to Americans who, according to a report from CNBC, 64% of whom are living paycheck to paycheck. He continued:

“While I sympathize with the people of Ukraine, and commend their fight against Putin, we cannot continue to spend money we don’t have. Passing this bill brings the total we’ve sent to Ukraine to nearly $54 billion over the course of two months.”

Here’s the deal. You can’t negotiate with Mitch McConnell. You just put the most conservative Senators in and he has to deal with it. No more peace offering candidates

McConnell Wants To Make Sure Republicans Vote For The ‘Correct’ Republican

It is no secret that Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump are not best friends. The fact that a majority of Republicans are supporters of Trump just irks him more.

But in addition to seemingly not caring that Americans can’t fill their gas tanks or feed their babies, as far back as last summer, Mitch McConnell threatened to “intervene” in any GOP primaries where he and his allies felt the candidates were “unelectable” in the general election.

Prior to the Senate vote on the Ukraine aid package, McConnell stated, “There’s always been isolationist voices in the Republican Party. It won’t create a problem, we’ll get the job done.”

The voices of the “isolationists” may have to get louder.

We need more Senators like @HawleyMO & @RandPaul, fewer Mitch McConnell’s.
