Republican Rep. Accused of ‘Reconnaissance Tour’ Wants To Investigate Jan. 6 Committee If GOP Wins In 2022

Republican Rep. Accused of ‘Reconnaissance Tour’ Wants To Investigate Jan. 6 Committee If GOP Wins In 2022

Representative Barry Loudermilk, a Georgia Republican accused by the House select committee of leading a ‘reconnaissance tour’ of the Capitol prior to January 6th, would like to serve as chair of a committee investigating the anti-Trump panel.

Loudermilk expressed interest to Politico in chairing the House Administration Committee should Republicans capture a majority in the chamber following the midterm elections.

According to the outlet, he’d like to use the role “to dig into the Jan. 6 panel and Capitol security.”

Loudermilk said he’d already made Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the likely Speaker of the House should the GOP win, aware of his interest in leading the committee.

The committee, he explained, “need(s) to look at things like the false allegations they’ve made against people … because when you make false allegations, that’s in violation of the House rules.”

Rep. Barry Loudermilk, who led a tour of the Capitol complex on the eve of the Capitol riot, may soon chair the committee in charge of Hill security.

Representative Barry Loudermilk indicated to Politico that there would be “no conflict of interest” in his chairing a potential committee investigation of the select committee “because I did nothing wrong, and they know it.”

“We need to make sure that we hold ourselves accountable to the rules that we have in this institution,” he added.

Some GOP lawmakers have already sent letters to the January 6 select committee demanding they preserve certain documents in the event Republicans regain control of the House.

Loudermilk, meanwhile, has been the target of the committee investigating the Capitol riot as the biased panel has insisted he may have led a reconnaissance tour of the Capitol on January 5th.

Capitol police have since exonerated Loudermilk from conducting any suspicious activity.

????BREAKING????: The truth will always prevail. As I’ve said since the Jan. 6 Committee made their baseless accusation about me to the media, I never gave a tour of the Capitol on Jan 5, 2021… pic.twitter.com/qBoLcmxnYQ

    — Rep. Barry Loudermilk (@RepLoudermilk) June 14, 2022

A letter from Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger revealed that “there is no evidence that Representative Loudermilk entered the U.S. Capitol with his group on Jan. 5, 2021.”

“We train our officers on being alert for people conducting surveillance or reconnaissance, and we do not consider any of the activities we observed to be suspicious,” Manger wrote.

    Could Fully Reopen the Capitol

Politico writes that Loudermilk has a fair chance of being chair of the panel empowered with an investigation of the select committee’s work.

He is the most senior member of the current committee after Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL), but Davis lost his primary last month.

McCarthy told the outlet that “Loudermilk has worked hard on that” but there are several others who are interested in heading up the committee.

Colbert’s gang of 7 targeted other Rep Members of Congress like @RepLoudermilk.

Insurrectionists @AdamSchiff on the fake @January6thCmte is lying about Rep. Loudermilk giving “tours” in the Capitol.

The Cap police have exonerated @RepLoudermilk but Schiff keeps lying about him.

Additionally, the report indicates Republicans would like to use the House Administration Committee to fully reopen the Capitol complex and roll back some security measures implemented by Democrats – including metal detectors for lawmakers.
