Trump Returns To D.C. For Speaking Event, Building Speculation Over Potential 2024 Campaign

Trump Returns To D.C. For Speaking Event, Building Speculation Over Potential 2024 Campaign

On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump will return to Washington D.C. for the first time since Jan. 20, 2021. He will return on very different footing than when he left. Trump is scheduled to deliver the keynote address to the America First Policy Institute Summit.

As Trump was nearing the end of his presidency the last time he was in the nation’s capitol, people such as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) criticized Trump for any role he might have had in the Jan. 6 riot, and also saying Republicans must move on from the Trump era.

A Supportive Crowd Will Be In Attendance

In addition to Trump, other speakers will include ex-Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, former economic advisor Larry Kudlow, Sen. Rick Scott who is chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and ironically, Lindsey Graham.

As the disaster that is the Biden administration continues to stumble through a myriad of issues including soaring gas and food prices, it will have given Trump a crowd that is all in and supportive of him and his record of achievement.

Linda McMahon is the head of the America First Policy Institute. In her opening comments, she spoke of those achievements for the nation, such as cutting regulations, the appointment of conservative judges, securing the southern border, and investing in the military.

    Is Trump In For 2024?

Donald Trump’s return to Washington D.C. may only fuel speculation of of a 2024 White House run. Trump says he has in fact made a final decision about running. He is now deciding whether to announce before or after the midterm elections in November.

A straw poll taken on Sunday at the student activist group Turning Point USA’s summit showed that Trump may have strong support among young voters. Trump won with 78.7% of the vote.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was next at 19%. None of the other potential candidates that have been mentioned got more than 1% of the vote. DeSantis has also been mentioned as a top prospect for the GOP in 2024, but he has maintained that his focus is reelection as Florida’s Governor. Trump has stated that DeSantis would be in the running for consideration as his running mate.

Jan. 6 Not Working For Democrats

Democrats in Congress have done their best to use the Jan. 6 committee as a vehicle to ultimately prevent Donald Trump from running for president again. While it may have swayed some voters opinions on whether they would vote for Trump if he runs a third time, it is not doing any favors popularity-wise for Joe Biden.

A recent Real Clear Politics average from between July 5-20 put Joe Biden’s approval rating at a dismal 36.8%, a whopping 57.5% disapprove. In comparison, in the 10-day time span following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Trump’s RCP average approval rating was 41.1% and 56.1% disapproved.

Many Democrats may be seeing the writing on the wall. Calls for Biden to announce he will not run in 2024 have been increasingly louder. Donald Trump however, much to the dismay of Democrats, the media, and Never-Trumpers, may be back.
