Google Street View Can Be Used to Tour the International Space Station, US Laboratory and Cupola Modules Included

Google Street View Can Be Used to Tour the International Space Station, US Laboratory and Cupola Modules Included
The rumors are true, Google Street View can be used to tour the International Space Station (ISS), thanks to ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet. He used DSLR cameras to capture nearly all the modules, the US Laboratory and Cupola included, to give us a preview of how where they collect data on the Earth’s oceans, atmosphere, and land surface.

Several of the modules are used to conduct experiments and studies that are not possible on Earth, such as monitoring how the human body reacts to microgravity or attempting to unravel the mysteries of our immune system. There are several annotations, or short notes, that pop up as you explore the ISS to provide additional information or just fun facts. One caveat: this tour doesn’t show Cygnus delivering pizza to the ISS.

For 16 years, astronauts have been working and living on the ISS, a structure made up of 15 connected modules that floats 250 miles above Earth. The ISS acts as a base for space exploration—possible future missions to the Moon,Mars and asteroids—and gives us a unique perspective on Earth itself,” said Thomas Pesquet, Astronaut at the European Space Agency (ESA).
