The Hasbro Selfie Series lets you put your face on real action figures such as Power Rangers, Ghostbusters, Spider-Man and more, with 3D printing technologies. Formlabs Factory Solutions partnered with Hasbro to make this possible. Together, they developed a custom resin to allow for a diverse range of colors for skin and hair tones.
The custom resin material also had to be skin safe and durable to meet the high standards Hasbro sets for its action figures. So, Formlabs used their Tough 1500 Resin, a new material producing prints that simulate polypropylene (PP) parts in terms of stiffness and strength. How will all this work? You just need to download the Hasbro Pulse app, use it to scan your face, choose a hair color, and then pick a preferred action figure. This configuration is then sent to the Hasbro print factory before it’s shipped off back to the customer. Available this fall with pricing yet to be announced. If you’re an Apple fan, there’s the iBoy iPod-inspired action figure.
