Windows XP fans rejoice! The new Microsoft ‘Hardwear’ clothing line includes a ‘Blue Sky Green Hill’ t-shirt, complete with the wayward mouse. For those who don’t know the backstory, it was spotted by Charles O’Rear through his car window as he drove down Highway 121 in 1998. He was a professional photographer with many of his works features in National Geographic and the Los Angeles Times.
The rolling hills caught O’Rear’s eye and so he stopped his vehicle, pulled out his medium-format camera and the rest is history. All of the colors were so vibrant that he did not need any post-processing before uploading to a stock photo licensing site. It was only a few years later when Microsoft would request to use his shot of Sonoma County as the default background for their latest operating system. One caveat: it’ll cost you $60 for the shirt alone. More information here. Now if Microsoft ever decided to make a retro smartphone, it would probably look like this Windows 95 Mobile device.
