American Idol Winner Jamal Roberts Gets Hero Welcome In Hometown
Jamal Roberts had fierce competition on American Idol, including runner-up John Foster and Breanna Nix, who ended up in third place. Jamal Roberts is slated to perform at the CMA Fest next month, but first, he returns to his hometown for a hero’s welcome.
Meridian, Mississippi, is holding a parade and concert to welcome the reality TV winner back home. The event was recently moved to another location due to the expected turnout. The concert has been rescheduled to Q.V. Sykes Park on Saturday, May 31, 2025. A parade through the town was scheduled to start at 5 p.m. But the announcement of the change in venue doesn’t mention the parade, so it’s unclear if it’s still happening.

As the winner of American Idol, Jamal Roberts gets a cash prize of $250,000. Furthermore, the show gifted him and John Foster an all-expense paid Disney cruise, which is a perfect gift for a family man like Jamal Roberts. He revealed that he became a father again while filming the show. He has two other daughters.
While a free cruise is great, the money would be even better. The American Idol winner told Us Weekly that he hasn’t received the prize money just yet, but he’s sure ABC is good for it. He plans to save it instead of making any big splurges.
His First Single Hits Number One On Gospel Charts
During his time on the ABC competition, Jamal Roberts had some pretty big moments. He performed alongside Jelly Roll during the season finale. The American Idol winner also performed a rendition of Tom Odell’s 2013 song “Heal.”
Fans couldn’t get enough of the powerful cover. “Just what the world needs right now, God-sent talent and a message of healing,” one fan wrote on social media about the performance of “Heal.”
The song was released on May 17 before the American Idol season finale the next day. With the permission of Tom Odell, Jamal Roberts released a remix of “Heal” as his first single. It’s already a massive hit and flew to the top spot.
According to Billboard magazine, the song sold 9,000 downloads in a week after its release. The song’s popularity took it to the top of the Gospel Digital Song Sales chart. It was the singer’s first number-one hit song. He previously charted at number four with “He’s Preparing Me” earlier this month.
“Heal” is popular outside of the gospel music genre, too. It reached number two on the all-genre Digital Songs chart. The American Idol winner will surely have more number one hits when he releases his first album.
