Like many country singers, Blake Shelton has several songs about drinking. He shared his surprising, unfiltered thoughts about Dry January. Keep reading to find out more about his honest opinion.
What Is Dry January?
The number of adults in the United States who partake in drinking alcohol is on a steep decline. It seems every week, a celebrity opens up about giving up drinking and their sobriety journey. Many people start the new year off by participating in Dry January, a month-long challenge to abstain from alcohol.

The tradition began in the UK in 2013 by the Alcohol Change UK organization. According to Time magazine, the charity’s platform is to reduce the harm alcohol causes. The outlet notes that 15% of adults observed Dry January in 2023, with even more joining in 2026. Was Blake Shelton one of them?
Blake Shelton Shares Non-Filtered Thoughts On Yearly Tradition
Blake Shelton told Entertainment Tonight in December 2023 that his New Year’s resolution was to stop drinking. “And I’ll say it again right now — that’s my New Year’s resolution. To either cut back or stop drinking altogether.” But what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
The country crooner kicked off his second Las Vegas Residency on Thursday, January 15. Blake Shelton has so many songs about drinking that Apple Music has a whole playlist. During the first Vegas show, he performed “Pour Me A Drink,” his hit song with Post Malone that earned a CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year.

While toasting the crowd, the singer shared his shocking, unfiltered thoughts on Dry January. He told the crowd, “I hope you guys aren’t doing that no drink January or whatever the hell that s*** is, man. It’s stupid. This is country music, okay?” He added, “Take the night off if you are.”
He Has Reason To Celebrate
Blake Shelton’s wife, Gwen Stefani, made an appearance at the concert in a pre-recorded video of their duet “Nobody But You.” PEOPLE magazine reported that Blake Shelton mentioned dry January again during the performance of his latest number-one hit song.

“Stay Country or Die Tryin’” topped the country charts this week. “This is the only time during this residency that I’ll be able to say this, but this week, today, we are celebrating my 31st No. 1 song that we just had this year,” he told the audience.
He added, “That’s why I’m saying you guys aren’t doing the no-drink January thing, because I’m celebrating. This is my one chance to celebrate this thing.”
Blake Shelton performed many of his hit songs during the 90-minute show. He’ll do it again for a handful of dates through the rest of the month. Fans still have a chance to catch him on January 18, 21, 23, 24, 28, 30 and 31. Tell us in the comments if you observe Dry January and what you think of Blake Shelton’s thoughts on the tradition.
