‘Bold & Beautiful’ Scott Clifton Talks About Liam’s Diagnosis

The Bold and the Beautiful fans recently saw Liam learn of a severe diagnosis after enduring a head injury. As things seem more and more dire, fans have been wondering what will happen. Recently, Liam’s actor, Scott Clifton, recently weighed in on the story, even revealing how he first learned about it.

Liam Recently Received Some Devastating News On The Bold And The Beautiful

Soap fans have seen Clifton in a variety of roles. He’s played Dillon Quartermaine in General Hospital and Schuyler Joplin in One Life to Live.

In 2010, Clifton took on the role of Liam Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful. This role, which he has played for over a decade, has earned him a few Daytime Emmy Awards over the years.

Fans had been hoping that Liam would soon become part of a big storyline on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, this story would take the form of a tumor diagnosis, which Liam recently learned was inoperable.

Fans have since been speculating over what could happen to the character. Some fans have hoped that Liam would have a miraculous recovery. This was especially true for fans who’ve enjoyed watching Liam’s scenes with his daughter, Kelly. On the other hand, others wondered if Clifton would soon be free to return to General Hospital.

Clifton himself talked about the character’s diagnosis in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest. He revealed he recently had a “really generous and honest” conversation with his boss, Bradley Bell, who is the soap’s executive producer and head writer.

The Actor Was Recently Called Into His Boss’ Office

According to the actor, Liam would be “sprinkled” into an upcoming story, which is something he “appreciated.” However, Clifton soon had questions after learning about a story in which Liam suffers a head injury.

Within a few days, Bell called Clifton up to his office to discuss the storyline. It was at this point that he learned about the brain tumor storyline.

Clifton shared that he was enthusiastic about the story. As he shared, “I’m really, really excited to tell this story, because I’ve never been entrusted with something this weighty before. And I’m really grateful to Brad for having enough faith in me to pull this off.”

Clifton Had A Few Words For Fans Who Were Wondering About Liam’s Fate

According to the actor, Liam will go through all the stages of grief. He noted, “Liam just sort of runs through them all in a matter of several scenes, but I think there are a couple of different flavors for Liam [as he processes his dire diagnosis]. There’s a big chunk of this where Liam is just in denial. Steffy and Finn are trying to get him to wrap his head around this, and he’s not getting it — like, he’s really not getting it, and that was really fun to play.”

Clifton noted that Liam will continue to have mixed feelings about the ordeal. He continued, ““I think Liam is kind of torn between two uses of his energy, of which he has very little because this [tumor] is making him lethargic and exhausted, and it’s making it difficult for him to do things, so there’s a sort of triage of his attention.”

“Liam does keep checking in about his mortality, about whether or not there’s any hope here, but he can’t put all of his eggs in that basket. The other half of Liam’s brain is going, ‘Okay, I have to assume that there’s no hope here. That’s the most pragmatic thing to do.’”

As to whether there is hope Liam will survive the story, Clifton had some words for fans. He noted, “To the fans, I would say, ‘Hey, man, we’re on this trip together! I’m right there with you. I don’t now exactly where this is going. I’m only like a couple weeks ahead [in terms of episodes he’s shot]!’ I also want the fans to know that whatever happens, this story is being told with such thoughtfulness and delicacy and generosity and love, from the top down. We all really, really care [about telling it right].”
