‘GH’ Kate Mansi Reveals Life-Saving Surgery Led To Diagnosis

Fans have followed Kate Mansi and her work as an actress for years, especially on General Hospital. However, she recently shared a new role to put on her resume. As she gave her share, she also discussed a time when her life was in danger. This also led to her learning about a condition through her own diagnosis.

Viewers Have Watched Kate Mansi On Days Of Our Lives & General Hospital

Mansi is an actress known for her work in soaps. One of her big breakout roles was playing Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives.

More recently, Mansi joined the cast of General Hospital. Starting in 2023, she took on the role of Kristina Davis. The character has been played by a number of actresses over the years, with Mansi taking over from Lexi Ainsworth following her 2023 exit.

Speaking with People, in honor of March’s Endometriosis Awareness Month, Mansi recently opened up about her own endometriosis diagnosis. This condition sees the uterine tissue grow outside of the uterus, causing cramps and chronic pain.

The actress shared that she didn’t grow up with these pains or cramping and that she learned about the condition in a surprising way. As she shared, in 2015, she found herself enduring severe pain, heavy bleeding, nausea, and a distended stomach.

However, doctors kept “dismissing” the issue. Looking back at this, Mansi mused that people often put more trust in doctors instead of their own feelings, which could be letting them know something is wrong.

At one point, Mansi shared that the pain kept her from zipping up her pants. She also looked “green and pale” on set, as noted by her makeup artist. As she noted, “It got unbearable that I ended up driving myself to the emergency room that day.”

Mansi’s mother and stepfather, who is an OBGYN, met her at the hospital. A mass was soon found in her abdomen, which caused doctors to call an oncologist. However, her stepfather called for immediate surgery.

Mansi Also Directed An Upcoming Episode Of General Hospital Discussing Endometriosis

Mansi shared that her stepfather’s actions ended up saving her. She shared, “My stepdad was so frustrated — and because he’s my stepfather, so it’s not a blood relation — he scrubbed in himself and was like, ‘I’m not waiting for an oncologist. I’m gonna do the surgery, or she’s not gonna make it.’ And he did a surgery that ended up saving my life. I was in the worst pain of my life, and it turns out, I had an ovarian cyst rupturing, and I was working through it for days.”

The actress continued, “The ovarian cyst coincidentally was sitting on top of a blood vessel. So when it burst, it hit the blood vessel, and then it leaked a liter and a half of blood into my abdomen.” This blood had eventually caused the mysterious mass. Removing it soon brought attention to the endometriotic tissue. At this point, Mansi’s stepfather explained that she had endometriosis, noting that this was the first time that she had ever heard that word.

Following this diagnosis, Mansi did more research into this condition. Noting that her symptoms change all the time, she shared that, “I have been lucky enough to have it be much more stable now.”

To raise awareness of the condition, Mansi also shared that she directed an upcoming episode of the soap touching on endometriosis. The story, which is set to air on March 16, will feature Kristina’s sister, Molly, experience a flare-up connected to the condition. Talking about her experience working on the episode, Mansi shared, “I was so proud of ABC and [executive producer] Frank Valentini and the writers for telling this story. I was so honored, and it should be something that is represented more.”
