Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Trump Over Reflecting Pool Algae Disaster: ‘It’s Mexican Flag Green’

    What To Know

    • Jimmy Kimmel mocked President Trump for spending $14 million to renovate the National Mall’s reflecting pool.
    • The pool, which Trump had painted ‘American flag blue,’ quickly turned green due to algae growth.
    • Kimmel joked that Trump “built a new swamp” instead of draining one like he promised.

Jimmy Kimmel had a lot to say about President Donald Trump‘s ongoing renovation projects on Tuesday night (June 16), especially the recently renovated reflecting pool in Washington, D.C.

“Trump spent reportedly $14 million updating the reflecting pool on the National Mall,” the late-night host said on Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! “He set out to resurface and repaint it because he didn’t like the way it looked. He wanted to paint it American flag blue. That was the color. So, the project was completed last week.”

However, as Kimmel pointed out, “Not even a week later, it’s already completely green. It’s Mexican flag green. That’s what the White House calls residual algae. They’ve got workers out there. They’ve been dumping gallons of hydrogen peroxide in there, which is also how he colors his hair, by the way.”

The comedian noted how it was Trump’s own decision to paint the bottom of the pool a darker color that caused the issue. “The darker color retains more heat and algae thrives in warmer water,” Kimmel said before quipping, “You know, he promised he would drain the swamp. Instead, he spent 14 million of our dollars building a new one.”

“His next step is to move St. Patrick’s Day to July and claim it’s green on purpose,” he added. “He owns hotels. If there was one thing he could do, you would think it was keep a pool clean. He can’t even get that right!”

Kimmel also mocked Fox News’ coverage of the reflecting pool, including one reporter who said, “The Democrats are going to tell you, ‘Oh, there’s green algae, it looks so bad.’ But there’s pool guys cleaning it up right now. No other president would do that.”

“That’s right. No one. Sorry,” Kimmel responded. “Abraham Lincoln wouldn’t have done that. He couldn’t have done it. He didn’t have the courage to do it.”

He then aired a clip from Real America’s Voice News, in which one reporter suggested someone was intentionally sabotaging the reflecting pool and that something “nefarious” was going on.

“My god, the algae is working with Antifa… You’ve cracked the case!” Kimmel joked. “Of all the many dumb and crazy problems that Donald Trump has created, never did I imagine that one of them would be algae.”
