Maurice Benard Leaving ‘GH’ To Start New Career With Son?

Maurice Benard has been entertaining soap fans as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital for three decades. He created the original character in 1993 and has been at the forefront of the show ever since. But a recent storyline twist has fans worried that he’s leaving the show, especially after talking of retirement earlier this year. He teased a new possible career path that involves his son, Joshua.

Joshua Benard Takes On GH Role

Joshua Benard joined General Hospital in 2022 as Adam Wright. But that wasn’t his first stint on the daytime soap. He previously played a younger version of his dad in a flashback in 2018.

After a storyline involving several big character on the canvas, the young actor wrapped up his stint in 2024. But fans hope to see him again. One even suggested Maurice Benard’s son as a Spencer recast now that Nicholas Alexander Chavez isn’t returning after finding overnight stardom with Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

But his dad might have a new career in mind for them both.

Maurice Benard Teases New Career With Son

Maurice Benard loves to engage with his fans on social media. He took to his Instagram to share a video that included his son, Joshua. The father-son duo had a car karaoke session to Bob Dylan’s “Like A Rolling Stone.”

The GH star joked in the caption that the two will take their act on the road soon. “Next year we’re coming to a city near you,” he captioned the video. The video earned major praise from his social media followers. Several commented on loving the bond between Maurice Benard and his son.

Another fan expects big things from Joshua Benard. “Oh, the son is going to be successful. He’s got a Jacob Elordi/Timothee Chalamet vibe. Plus he seems like a nice kid,” they wrote.

Several of the comments seemed to think the actor was serious about going on the road to perform with his son:

    • That would make my year!!! Please consider coming to Michigan
    • Hope you make it to Georgia sometime.
    • when are you coming to Miami fla
    • Please come to Baltimore area!
    • Nice lol when’s the concert coming?
    • Wish yall would come visit Texas
    • New Orleans is waiting for you

Could it happen? Probably not, but then again, GH stars Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) tour the country on a comedy tour.

Maurice Benard doesn’t seem to have any plans on leaving the ABC soap soon but do you think he should consider a tour with his son for real?
