‘Plathville’ Fans Rage Over TLC Exploitation Of Lydia’s Husband

‘Plathville’ Fans Rage Over TLC Exploitation Of Lydia’s Husband

Lydia Plath married Zac Wyse earlier this year. Fans are getting to see the moments that led to the event with the latest season of Welcome to Plathville. However, some fans are taking issue with how the show has treated Zac, pointing out some comments made about him in particular.

Welcome To Plathville Is Showing The Moments Leading Up To Lydia & Zac’s Wedding

TLC’s Welcome to Plathville premiered back in 2019. As fans know, the series revolves around the Plath family, made up of Kim and Barry Plath and their children.

Lydia Plath married Zac Wyse back in February 2025 at the family’s Georgia farm. At the time, fans noted the engagement was a quick one, as he had proposed in December 2024, just a month following the couple sharing their relationship on social media.

Recently, the series premiered its seventh season on July 22. The moment where Zac asked Barry for permission to marry Lydia was even shared with viewers.

At the time, Zac shared that he and Lydia were going on a mission trip to Germany together. They then asked the question, “‘Okay, are we going to Germany married or engaged?’… And as we asked that question, everything kind of came together to happen before we went to Germany.”

During the show, jokes were made about the couple having a shotgun wedding. For her part, Lydia denied that anything was forcing the pair to speed up their engagement.

However, fans on social media have taken issue with how the show treated Zac while sharing this story. This extended to comments made about him during interactions with the family.

Some Fans Even Made A Few Suggestions On What Zac & Lydia Should Do Next

As one fan explained in a recent post, “I really feel sorry for Zac and I’m disgusted with TLC. Here’s a fundie kid, who probably grew up as sheltered as Lydia, making his television debut and not only is TLC focusing/speculating on his sexuality, [but] thousands of others online are, too.”

“Things like this can ruin people’s lives to the point of no return. Especially when it’s someone who doesn’t have the training or experience to handle the vitriol being thrown at him. I feel sorry for his family who were excited to see him on TV only to see their son mocked.”

In particular, the fan disliked that the show seemed to mock Zac and Lydia’s “idealistic” view of love. They were also concerned that the show would continue to treat Zac like this all the more in upcoming episodes.

The fan continued, “Speculating about someone’s sexuality is never okay. It’s even worse when it’s on national TV.”

Taking to the comments, other fans shared similar sentiments. A few fans even suggested it would be for the best for the couple to keep their distance from the show. Some comments included:

    • “The speculation of his sexuality bothers me like why a man can’t be happy, seem to care about his girlfriend, and actually take his faith seriously without people thinking he is gay.”
    • “They should move to Minnesota along with Lydia’s older sister. Get OUT of Reality TV!!!”
    • “I was actually shocked that TLC kept that clip of Ethan saying Zac seems gay. It’s one thing to hear that online from random folks, but another to see on screen coming from Lydia’s own brother.”
    • “I hope Zac and Lydia pull a Hossana and gtf away from her family.”
    • “TLC is probably going to eventually villainize Zac if he ever defends himself against the Plath toxicity.”
