‘Saturday Night Live’ Season 51: Everything to Know

Saturday Night Live will return next month for its landmark 51st season, and now we know who will take the stage at Studio 8H as hosts of the first three episodes, along with the musical guests.

NBC has announced that SNL‘s premiere episode, airing live on October 1, will be hosted by Bad Bunny, with Doja Cat as musical guest. Bad Bunny previously hosted once before, while Doja Cat makes her musical debut.

Then, on the October 11 episode, former SNL regular Amy Poehler joins the show in her second individual hosting (third overall) stint, with Role Model making his musical guest debut on SNL.

The following week, on October 18, pop star Sabrina Carpenter will pull double duty as both host and musical guest. She’s previously appeared as a musical guest on the show, but this will mark her SNL hosting debut.

Saturday Night Live will return this October to NBC, with five newcomers and six departures.

Here’s a look at everything else there is to know about SNL Season 51.

When will SNL Season 51 premiere?

SNL will return for its Season 51 premiere on Saturday, October 4 at 11:30/10:30c on NBC.

Who will star in SNL Season 51?

Despite some major shakeups in the cast, many of the repertory players from Season 50 are coming back, including “Weekend Update” stars Michael Che and Colin Jost, along with Kenan Thompson, James Austin Johnson, Chloe Fineman, Sarah Sherman, Andrew Dismukes, Mikey Day, Bowen Yang, and Marcello Hernández.

Not returning for the season are Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, Emil Wakim, Heidi Gardner, and Ego Nwodim.

Meanwhile, the cast has also increased by five newcomer featured players: Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska. See photos and more details about each right here.

Plus, there are seven new writers joining the roster this year, per Variety:  Jack Bensinger (Rap World), stand-up comedian Jo Sunday (Just for Laughs), comic Maddie Wiener (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), actor and writer Rachel Pegram (Harley Quinn), writer-comedian Claire McFadden (Second City) and Maxwell Gay and Tucker Flodman, two newcomers from The Harvard Lampoon.

What will happen in Season 51?

As Michael Che told THR, “I try not to think about it in the macro — in Season 51, we can look back at 50 and say what was special about it, but it’s impossible to determine what is going to be special. You can’t plan for a perfect moment.”

Be sure to bookmark this page for continued updates as new details about Season 51 come through.
