Scott MacFarlane Announces CBS Exit On X

Scott MacFarlane has been part of CBS News for years as a “justice correspondent.” However, he recently announced his departure from the network in a message shared on social media. This comes out as a number of faces have been leaving CBS News.

Scott MacFarlane Had Been Part Of Multiple CBS Programs, From CBS Mornings To Face The Nation

MacFarlane is a journalist known for his work with CBS News. Based in Washington, D.C., he has appeared in multiple programs for the network since joining in 2021.

This has included CBS Mornings, CBS Evening News, CBS Saturday Morning, and Face the Nation. Outside of television, MacFarlane has also appeared on the CBS News 24/7 video streaming service and CBS Radio.

However, MacFarlane recently caught viewers by surprise with a recent announcement on social media. He will be departing from the network after around five years.

Taking to X, the “justice correspondent” shared, “To my incredible colleagues at CBS: I want to personally let you know that my work will soon no longer appear on CBS News.”

Another CBS Alum Also Wished MacFarlane Well In The Comments

“This is my decision, and I appreciate the bosses at CBS for understanding it. I will always value the opportunity I had to work alongside the talented and committed professionals here. I’m proud to have had the words ‘CBS correspondent’ next to my name – always will be.”

Hinting at what would come next, MacFarlane continued, “For the next phase of my career, I look forward to some independence and finding new spaces to share my work in line with my personal goals. I thank you all. The work will not stop, and I’ll always be a call away.” In an update, he shared that he had also shared this note with his colleagues.

UPDATE: i just shared this note with my colleagues:

“To my incredible colleagues at CBS: I want to personally let you know that my work will soon no longer appear on CBS News. This is my decision, and I appreciate the bosses at CBS for understanding it.

As CBS News viewers know, the network has seen a number of changes since the recent installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief. This reshuffling also takes place amid the merger between Skydance Media and Paramount, CBS’ parent company.

MacFarlane’s name joins other figures who have recently left the network. As previously reported, CBS Mornings executive producer Shawna Thomas announced her departure from the network last week. Like MacFarlane, she also joined the network around 2021.

Since joining the network, MacFarlane became known especially for his coverage of the 16,00 federal cases that resulted from the January 6 attacks on the Capitol. He was also on-site during the assassination attempt on current President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. His reports served as one of the first accounts of the shooting.

Since making this announcement, MacFarlane has received a few reactions from other CBS News alumni. In a comment to his post, Face the Nation moderator Margaret Brennan wrote, “We will miss you, Scott. I will follow your work wherever you end up. You brought your enthusiasm and dedication to reporting to our DC bureau, the Hill & DOJ and made all of our broadcasts better. Thank you.”

What is your reaction to Scott MacFarlane’s recent announcement? Have you been following this story? Make sure you come back to TV Shows Ace for all the latest TV and celebrity news.
