‘The Grammys’ Viewers Slam New Change To Award Show

‘The Grammys’ Viewers Slam New Change To Award Show

The Grammys recently returned for its 68th annual show in Los Angeles. However, a significant change was announced for the proceedings, reportedly for the first time, even before the event aired. Since then, fans have been reacting to the change on social media.

The Grammy Awards Returned For Its 68th Show On February 1, 2026

Considered one of the biggest events in music, the Grammy Awards returned for its 68th show on February 1, 2025. The event was held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, marking the 23rd year the event was held at the venue.

Comedian Trevor Noah was announced as the ceremony’s host. This marked his sixth time hosting the show.

Before the 2026 event even started, however, the award show announced a change that proved to upset fans. It was shared that the number of awards handed out during the televised show will be slashed.

However, it appeared that the change affected what was shown rather than the actual number of awards. Only nine awards were set to be presented for the main ceremony that aired on CBS. Beforehand, awards for the remaining categories were presented earlier in the day during a non-televised pre-show.

Normally, around 15 awards are handed out during the televised ceremony, with the remainder given out during a pre-show. This act reportedly allows for more artist performances and advertisements.

Most Nominees Reportedly Didn’t Attend The Pre-Show Where Most Of The Awards Were Given Out

This is believed to be the first time the televised event only showcased nine awards. Some of the categories featured included Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.

The other awards, which reportedly accounted for the majority of the nominees, were given out earlier during a “Premiere Ceremony.” Reportedly, many nominees did not attend the event as they were getting ready for the televised portion of the award show.

As noted by The U.S. Sun, however, many on social media took issue with this change. Some noted that the awards were the main point of the show and should be the center of attention. A few comments included:

    • “That’s such a huge slap in the face for people who work years to earn their spot on that stage.”
    • “What then is the point? Might as well make it a virtual award ceremony at this point.”
    • “Whattt?! Why so few? They wasting too much time and doing too much?”
    • “Why even call it the Grammys if almost nothing happens on TV?”
