News has come out that a performer who competed on The Voice has passed away. In addition, the singer had a notable career in music, from songwriting to serving as a band frontman. The singer was 44 years old at the time of their death.
The Singer Shared A Video On Instagram Stories Shortly Before His Death
The Voice premiered back in 2011, serving as an American remake of the original Dutch competition series, The Voice of Holland. As seen in the series, a panel of coaches select and help train singers, all the while competing themselves to train the winning act.
Various coaches seen in the American version include Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Blake Shelton. News has come out that a singer who teamed up with Blake Shelton has recently passed away.
According to People, Ryan Whyte Maloney, who appeared on the series back in 2014, has recently passed away. He was 44 years old at the time of his death.
Whyte Maloney’s death had been confirmed by the Clark County Coroner in Las Vegas this past Tuesday. It was reported that he died by suicide. His cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.
This past Monday, January 27, Whyte Maloney posted a video to Instagram Stories. In a clip, he shared, “Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight, and we will be rocking,” in what appeared to be a bar. He also appeared to be making a “rock hand gesture.”
Whyte Maloney Served As Part Of Blake Shelton’s Team Back In 2014 On The Voice
Whyte Maloney was born in Traverse City, Michigan, in 1981. At one point, he served as the frontman for the group Indulge, recording a 2005 album, Tomorrow’s Another Day.
Whyte Maloney served as part of the band for around a decade before pursuing a solo career. He later recorded his own debut solo album, Where I’ve Been, and performed throughout the country in the early 2010s.
Back in 2014, Whyte Maloney appeared on The Voice. For his audition, he performed the Journey song, “Lights” in a blind audition.
The performance earned Whyte Maloney a four-chair turn. He wound up joining Blake Shelton’s team. While on the show, he also performed Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” Rascal Flatts’ “Easy,” and Shinedown’s “Second Chance.”
Whyte Maloney ended up serving as one of Shelton’s top five finalists. He also returned to perform during the season’s finale. After his appearance on The Voice, Whyte Maloney worked as a songwriter for other artists and continued to release singles. In 2024, he also had an ongoing residency with Shelton’s venue Ole Red.
