Bret Michaels is taking a break from touring after doctors determined he needs more time to recover from “recent surgeries.”

Following the Poison frontman’s comeback performance at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Georgia, physicians evaluated him and recommended he stay off the road for the next several months, according to a statement on Michaels’ official Facebook page.

“We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being,” Michaels’ doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, said in the statement. “He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”

The announcement means Michaels will miss the remainder of his scheduled 2026 dates, including appearances at The Mountain Music Festival, private events and other planned shows.

“Our deepest apologies from Michaels Entertainment Group, as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year’s shows,” the organization said. “We now look ahead and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock.”

“On this #WisdomWednesday, the first thing I learned is complete gratitude for the frontline workers, doctors and nurses who this week have recently taken care of me, as the kidney stone (after almost 7 days of waiting it out) would not pass,” he wrote.

The morning after playing the third concert in which he pushed through the pain, Michaels was admitted to a hospital because “the pain became too much when the stone would not pass.”

“Just want to say on this #WisdomWednesday that I am wise enough to know how important family, friends, fans, doctors and nurses play such a vital role in our everyday health.”

Michaels, 63, has long been candid about living with Type 1 diabetes, which he was diagnosed with as a child. The rocker has continued to perform and advocate for diabetes awareness throughout a career that has included fronting Poison, starring on reality television and launching a successful solo career.

Michaels has faced serious health challenges before. In 2010, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and later underwent a procedure related to a hole in his heart. He has previously credited his fans, family and determination to return to the stage for helping him through difficult recoveries.
