‘Today’ Savannah Guthrie Opens Up Returning, Mom’s Abduction

Today Show host Savannah Guthrie had just come back to work when her mother, Nancy, was seemingly abducted on February 1st, 2026. Savannah flew to Tucson, Arizona, to aid with the search and to be with her siblings. No one knew if she would return to her post in New York City, but she did in April 2026. So, what has it been like knowing her mother is still out there while she is behind the desk? Keep reading for more on what Savannah had to say.

The Show Must Go On For Savannah

So many rumors swirled regarding Savannah Guthrie and whether she would come back to the Today Show. There were no answers regarding her mother, Nancy, 84, and her tragic disappearance. So, would Savannah stay with her family, or would she want to even come back to work knowing that there was so much mystery? She opted to return right after Easter, even though some followers felt that she should never come back because her life was too traumatized. Now, four months after Nancy went missing, Savannah is breaking her silence about coming back to work.

She took over co-hosting duties alongside Jenna Bush Hager on Monday, June 8th, and broke her silence. Savannah noted that she struggles daily to look at Jenna without getting emotional, as it has been extremely trying coming back to work. The two are best friends, and they have an unspoken understanding with each other, as Savannah Guthrie noted:

“When I see you in the morning, I know you see me, no matter what is going on. And sometimes that’s almost too much because I feel like to do the job I gotta keep it together, pull it together. But I’m happy to be back. It’s like the two hours of my day — it’s not that I’m not thinking about it, because I am, but it’s something to do and it brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody. But, no, it’s not easy.”

However, she has made it clear that she cries every morning and every afternoon. There is not a moment that goes by that Savannah Guthrie does not think about her mother. Despite using the Today Show as a break from reality, it still haunts her and is inescapable.

    Always On Her Mind

Savannah Guthrie wanted to make it clear that she never forgets her mother. Although some may judge her choice to go back to work, this is not her moving away from that. Rather, it is a way to cope with all that she went through and is still dealing with. After she spoke up on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, many sent so much support her way:

    • SO cruel. Who does this to an 84 year old woman and her family? My heart breaks for Savannah and her sister and brother 💔 😢
    • Still praying for her and her family.
    • Somebody knows what happened! I pray that there will be some news of this soon. God knows, may he reveal it to them. 🙏

Hopefully, Savannah Guthrie and her family can have some resolution sooner rather than later.
