Interview with Donna Sobredo, Author of Origin Lie

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Origin Lie-Three Girls and a Time Machine?

Three Girls and a Time Machine was born from a question that wouldn’t let me go. I traveled the world, visiting ancient cities, holy sites, and monumental ruins — places meant to tell the story of who we are and where we came from. But everywhere I went, something felt… incomplete. The history didn’t quite line up. The stories conflicted. The official explanations felt thinner than the structures that had survived for thousands of years. Later, while working in the medical field, I began to notice another pattern — one involving what we put into our bodies, what we are told is “normal,” and what we are never encouraged to question. At the same time, I watched how quickly education, music, and media transformed — not gradually, but abruptly — reshaping attention, values, and even identity in ways that felt profoundly different from when we were young. It began to feel as if something invisible was tightening — not around our bodies, but around our minds. This novel is a work of fiction woven from those questions — a story inspired by ancient mysteries, modern contradictions, and the sense that our past, our health, and even our future may be far more connected than we’ve been taught. It took years to write, and the story continues in books two and three — because some questions are too big for only one timeline.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Origin Lie-Three Girls and a Time Machine, what would they be?

Dee- Teach Your Children” — Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Claire -There’s Gonna Be a Showdown. ELO. Yasmine- The Season of the Witch, Donovan. Domhall.-Don’t Stop Me Now-Queen. Ben/Eon-I can feel it coming in the air tonight-Phil Collins. Hapthia,- Dust in the Wind” — Kansas (1977). Yaldabaoth- Personal Jesus” — Depeche Mode (1989). Sophia- Breathe Me” — Sia (2004). General Silas, Fortunate Son” — Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969). Humanity- Shiny Happy People” — R.E.M. (1991).

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I like many different genres, but mostly Conspiracy History, Revisionist History (fictional/speculative), Hidden History, Ancient Conspiracy Fiction, and Speculative Prophecy Fiction.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Six minute X-ray, The Apocryphon of John, The Book of Jubilees, The Secret Doctrine of the Rosicrucians, Entangled, The New World Order.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The scene when Jesus is speaking to the beings who came to see who and what kind of human he was/is.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I like to write outside. I get inspiration and creative vibes from the trees.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

This is all a dream, best to dream happy than dream nightmares…
