Aside from the pierced ear, Craig Melvin has kept the same hairstyle throughout the years he’s been on the Today Show. When he’s not on the air, he lets loose, like during his recent family vacation.
The vacation was much-needed after a scary incident at the New York City studio. In July, an intruder made their way past security and confronted Craig Melvin. The intruder was actually looking for Al Roker but came upon Craig instead. Luckily, no one was injured during the confrontation.
After rest and relaxation in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Craig Melvin returned to the NBC program. Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed a subtle change in the anchor over the last few months. For the first time in years, Craig Melvin let his hair grow out. For the last few months, it’s been the longest in 30 years.
He took fans on a “hair journey” on social media. The Today Show anchor shared footage of a visit to his barber to freshen up his longer locks. He said that his longer look was “encouraged by my longtime barber DJ Fresh.” But now, it was time for a cut.
Craig Melvin showed the barber buzzing the sides and top, then using a twist rake for texture. When the barber was done, Craig Melvin’s hair was still longer than how he usually wears it.
