After 6 Years, Umbrella Academy’s Delayed Sequel Series Finally Gets Major Update

Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s The Umbrella Academy became a pop culture phenomenon when it arrived on Netflix. While the Netflix series has now ended, die-hard fans know that Umbrella Academy’s story continues beyond Netflix. However, the franchise’s latest sequel faced a massive six-year gap between installments, only to encounter another lengthy delay during its release. Now, there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel, as The Umbrella Academy’s latest sequel is nearing the conclusion of its long-awaited story.

Most know The Umbrella Academy was originally a comic book series created by writer Gerard Way (lead singer of My Chemical Romance) and artist Gabriel Bá before it was adapted into the hit Netflix show. The main comic series includes The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite (2007–2008), The Umbrella Academy: Dallas (2008–2009), The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion (2018–2019), and the ongoing The Umbrella Academy: Plan B, which began releasing in 2025.

10 Years Later, Hellboy Announces New Sequel Comic That Will Return Him to Hell

Hellboy’s original creator is returning to give the Red Devil himself an unexpected sequel to one of the franchise’s greatest stories.

The six-year gap between Hotel Oblivion and Plan B is particularly notable because Gerard Way revealed the fourth volume as far back as 2020, yet it took six years for the sequel to finally begin releasing.

Plan B then suffered major delays mid-release as well, particularly between issue #3, which was released on October 1, 2025, and issue #4, which didn’t arrive until May 20, 2026, followed by yet another delay between issues #4 and #5. However, we now have a release date for issue #5 and an early solicitation for issue #6, confirming that this highly anticipated story is finally back on track with an end in sight.

Dark Horse Comics has revealed that The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #5 is now slated to release on October 28, 2026, which is extremely exciting news for those who have been loving the series so far. While the release date for the finale has yet to be revealed, Dark Horse Comics has released an early solicitation, confirming that it is on its way and will likely follow within 1 to 2 months after the release of issue #5.

The solicitation for Plan B #6 confirms that this will be the series finale and also reveals the official synopsis for the issue: “The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. The first time, they were caught off guard—but now, the Umbrella Academy is ready to confront the Sparrows. No matter who comes out on top, one thing is certain: this family’s about to get smaller.”

The Umbrella Academy: Plan B #6 will be 40 pages and available to read for $4.99 upon its release date.

Fans of Netflix’s adaptation of The Umbrella Academy will likely be frothing at the mouth for this issue, given how much fun the rivalry between the Umbrella Academy and Sparrow Academy was in the TV series. We might even get a repeat of the surreal yet iconic dance-off between the families. But even if we don’t get another repeat of Season 3’s “Footloose” episode, Way and Bá have likely used the extended time between issue releases well and will surely cook up an unforgettable finale for this The Umbrella Academy sequel comic.
